Why would you not expect a delivery charge, The money will only be added if you want it delivered.
Someone has to pay for the van, fuel, probably 2 mens time.
Most places charge delivery now, even Argospastmaster wrote: »However, just as I was ready to pay for it I was informed that the price was actually £60 MORE than the marked price due to a compulsory delivery charge. All goods in their stores are apparently subjected to an additional £60 on marked prices (£10 for really small items).
My BIL wanted to buy a bed and mattress package from harveys he's got his own handyman business and van so was willing and able to collect it himself. They said that wasn't an option and he had to pay £60 for delivery, there was no way round it.
The delivery charge made the bed much more expensive than somewhere else he had see the same package so he didn't buy it from them and when he went back to the other store (can't remember which one it was off the top of my head) he checked their delivery charges out of curiosity and they were much much lower than harveys anyway.0 -
We brought 3 seater and 1 seater from our wonderful Harveys store and to say the after care is bad is an understatement. There was a lot of glue on one of the cushions, plus tears and terrible finishing on the arms, but the delivery guy said 'don't worry, I'll take a couple of snaps on me ole mobile, report the problem and they'll send a replacement and chuck these for recycling'.
My wife called our local store a couple of days later to see what was happening but they knew nothing about it and told her we should have refused delivey if the problems were that bad. She explained what the driver had said but they said we should have refused delivery or called them on the same day, now we'll have to wait 2 weeks for someone to come out and have a look and, depending on what he says, we may have to wait 11 weeks for a replacement. We then called their head office only to be laughed at by the numpty on the phone. That all happened on the 13th April.
The chap came two weeks ago to have a look at the problems and we're still waiting, I called Harveys this morning and was told they would call back in 15 mins that was about 1 hour and 23 minutes ago, not that I'm counting!!
People DO NOT USE HARVEYS they're in it for the money and don't care for anything else.0 -
There have been loads of bad reviews of Harveys if you google a bit. £60 delivery on small items is ridiculous.0

I bought a sofa, chair and footstool from harvey's last august 2010. It got delivered in october and here we are not even a year later and the cushions started to sag really badly. I took the cushions off and unzipped the back only for the zip to break. The zip was plastic and broke straight away. I contacted the insurance which i took out at the time of purchase and they passed me back to harvey's.
They sent a technician who came out and took photo's and made his report.
I rang Harvey's 12 days after his visit only to be told that they would not cover my manufacturers warranty and passed me back to the insurance. I phoned them again and they said that because i was putting a peice of foam in the back of the cushion that it was my fault it broke. So it's not the rubbish poor quality of the plastic zip they put on the cushions but it's my fault for trying to resolve the problem.
I spent well over a thousand pounds on this furniture with the added cost of a further 3 years insurance which is'nt worth the paper it's written on.
I thought Harvey's were a reputable company and i am obviously wrong. A word of advice from anyone looking to purchase furniture DON'T GO TO HARVEY'S
POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY DON'T WANT TO PUT RIGHT ANY PROBLEMS THAT ARE OBVIOUSLY THEIR FAULT.
Does anyone know where i go now? Please help.0
