Harvey's furniture stores warning

I am looking for a small chest of drawers for a corner in my lounge. I thought I had located the ideal one in one of Harvey's furniture stores. However, just as I was ready to pay for it I was informed that the price was actually £60 MORE than the marked price due to a compulsory delivery charge. All goods in their stores are apparently subjected to an additional £60 on marked prices (£10 for really small items).
So in effect, if you are buying from Harvey's add another £60 on to the label price. If this is not misleasding the customers, I don't kmow what is.

A lot of furniture stores do this and it is annoying. If they offered a pick-up option it would be fair enough. But charging for delivery when there is no other way to get your goods is frustrating.
However, we bought two items of furniture in Harveys last week and negotiated a discount that was significantly more than the delivery charge. They have flexibility in their prices so there is no need to pay the charge if you're spending a reasonable amount in there.
It is a flat delivery charge irrespective of order size so is probably designed to discourage people from placing small orders.
What did make me laugh was the free salt and pepper pot if you spent over £500. :rotfl:0 -
There are threads all over these forums regarding Harveys. I must admit we did go in there a couple of years back looking for a bed and corner TV unit but having now read the threads on here I'm so glad they didn't have anything we liked. It wasn't for lack of trying on behalf of the salesmen that we came away with nothing - they have to rate as some of the pushiest sales people I've ever come across.0

Discount at Harveys.....against Harveys made-up price, of course.
The sooner they go out of business, the better.
As for their salespeople - which part of f**k off don't they understand?????British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

From experience, the "f**k off" bit!!!! I've nothing against people with piercings and tattoos but being stalked by some Del Boy wannabe with a diamond stud was not the nicest experience in Harveys. I should point out the guy was well into his 40s and not some spotty teenage chav!0 -
I have to say the guy we dealt with wasn't pushy at all. Unlike SCS Sofas which had truly awful sales-people. Our current sofa is from Harveys and is going strong after five years. We ordered a sofa-bed and arm-chair last week and no cause for complaint with the process so far. We'd shopped around the various furniture sales and like what we've ordered and are happy with the price. *shrug*0

Why would you not expect a delivery charge, The money will only be added if you want it delivered.
Someone has to pay for the van, fuel, probably 2 mens time.
Most places charge delivery now, even Argosmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

We also must be lucky, bought a sofa last year, no-one hassled us, and we also negotiated on the price of delivery to £30, which is a reasonable charge0

I love Harveys, no really....
My girlfriend purchased some bedroom furniture from them a couple of years ago, I won't go into the fact that she didn't really read/understand what they got her to sign - which meant she ended up paying twice as much as the furniture actually cost!, anyway, some of the items developed faults - ie a drawer kept opening itself, handles fell off. the drawers fell off etc.. I wrote off with photos explaining the situation and they replied saying these were not design faults..So apparently their items are infact designed to fall apart after a year or so0
