I was so sorry to hear of your disease though, to be honest I'd never heard of bronchiestastist before, but having just read a bit about it online I can see why you're so keen to give smoking the boot! Obviously smoking didn't start it, but if you can free yourself of fags then things should be a lot easier for you, especially as you have 3 kiddies to care for; they'll certainly be happy if Mum gives it up.it will certainly give you far better capacity in your air ways as well is your lungs and I'd imagine that some exercise in the coming weeks we'll do you the world of good even if it's difficult at first.

Thankyou Sue!
I can't quite believe that someone who doesn't know me would spend the time researching my lung condition. Your right its not from smoking, but the amount of busibodies who say it is is unreal! I had whooping cough as a child and pnemonia 6 times which has scarred my lungs. Thankyou for taking the time to look it up.:T
I'm going cold turkey, and today is day 1. I asked for the tablets from the docs but because of other tablets i take i can't have them. The little tablet things that go under your tongue give me really bad blisters and uclers and i have an allergy to latex so i can't use the patches. I would try chewing gum but i HATE it. Not just NRT gum, but ALL gum. So, cold turkey it is for me!
Today shouldn't be too hard. I'm from the North East but i'm getting ready (or i should be) to get the train up to Edinborough with family so i plan on having a busy day. No one who i am going out with today should help ALOT! Lol. :rotfl:
Well, must dash...i pop in and let u all know how i got on!

I got through day one so I am really proud of myself!
I did end up going to bed about 9pm because the cravings just got too much! I usually smoke in the evening in front of the tv so I will go out today and buy a crossword book to keep me busy tonight.
I love the ice lolly idea too, yesterday I ate far too much chocolate and crisps! Im also feeling really thirsty so I think it will help with that.
I will keep popping on everyday to let you know how I am getting on
Thanks again all
Well done you Tickled...
Another derrière up day yesterday cos all my batteries decided to go flat about 5pm ...so don't know how many I had ...
But today is going better...so here's hoping. Tuesdays are always a bad cig day for me...Just peeved I can't use my e-cig in Starbucks (policy apparently ).....worth knowing....
So yeah in zombie mode cos I didn't get to bed till 11pm and the bedroom clock is still in GMT so I thought it was 6am and time to get up when in reality it was 5am:rotfl:

Hi hoogervaaner, it's lovely to know you've done sooo very well. Congratulations on having gotto the really HUGE benchmark!!! :T:T Please don't worry too much over the weight, focus on the "tons of energy and nicer skin" you now have and settle into an exercise routine that you'll enjoy, then gradually increase it and you'll soon shift the weight. Most, not all, people put on some, but it's temporary and can be got off.
If you've been over-eating with meals (larger portions) then drink a glass of water 1/2 hour (no less than) before your meals, make sure it's no less than 20 mins before or you won't have sufficient enzymes to properly digest the meal. At other times sip waterregularly, keep a bottle with you so it's.....on tap!In a couple of months you'll have a smile on your face and excited about your new healthy life. :j Best wishes hoogervaaner and be happy with the you that's still there, you'll soon see the you you're more used to looking back in the mirror! :happylove For now be sooooo very proud of yourself, you've done brilliantly!

Thank you, exactly what I needed to hear..... you are lovely and I feel much more positive today :T0 -

I have tons of energy and nicer skin but gained half a stone.... this has really upset me as I have always been very very thin and am now at my heaviest ever. I have started exercise and will take on board the drinking loads of water tip. I am still thin to most people but not to me and really don't want to gain a single extra pound.
You and me both Hoogervaaner. I am not quite the heaviest I have ever been but I am heading that way and starting to feel it. Very aware that I can't continue eating as I am for much longer. I've consciously been making an effort to pad out meals with more vegetables in an attempt to curb the snack-attacks but not really helping. I think I maybe should eat several smaller 'meals' spread more evenly through the day but its not always possible when pesky meetings and work gets in the way.
Worst time for me is on my way home from work and again after dinner, I can eat the biggest dinner and yet be starving and looking for something else less than an hour later. It all goes downhill from there and then it's fatal. I try to be good and grab a couple of dry crackers to nibble on, then I'll be standing staring in the cupboard ten minutes later looking for something else - biscuits, crisps, yoghurt, chocolate, peanuts, cake or anything else I can quickly get my hands on.
I bought a big pack of rice cakes and left them in the car for desperate times, but realised that was a BIG mistake after being quite sensible and just eating one or two for a few days. I demolished the remaining half a pack in one half an hour journey, I was feeling quite disgusted with myself, yet couldn't stop myself until they were all gone!!
I am sure I am suffering from that type of bullimia where you binge eat but forget to throw up :rotfl: All joking aside, I will have to address the situation before it goes too much farther.

No worries Kate, the way I view it is, I'm not a lot of use to you if I don't Google your problem and to see just what is is going on, apart from that I think it's good to have a little insight into what people are suffering. Though it's a pity others that you've come across don't do the same and stop jumping to snap decisions! Ignore them Kate they're not worth worrying over. I was quite pleased to hear that you're going cold turkey as, to my mind, I think it's all over a lot quicker that way and you're certainly free from any sort of nicotine in your system after just 3 days, so something to really look forward to very quickly there! :j I hope you're really enjoying your day Kate and I look forward to hearing from you later if you have the time. Hi again hoogervaaner. I'm glad you've taken note of the post to you above, it really is all true and you will soon lose that weight, after all it really is only a small amount compared to what most people put on. Think weight then think water! xWorst time for me is on my way home from work and again after dinner, I can eat the biggest dinner and yet be starving and looking for something else less than an hour later. Oh dear Kiwi....you really did give me a darn good laugh on reading your post and especially the bulimia part!! :rotfl: I was giggling like a mad thing after that! Thanks for the hilarity Kiwi.
It's probably a stupid question, but do you ever try drinking water? If not then seriously, do try and have a lot more water than during your day, especially on the way home from work (in a bottle)and as I said to hoogervaaner, have a full glass of water half an hour before eating your meal, it really does help in feeling full as you don't eat so much during the meal anyway. That way you can start getting used to smaller portions for your main meals which really does make you far less hungry during the evening. I know that much myself, believe me! If I'm not careful then I'm also one of those "eat a meal and want something very soon after types" especially something sweet in the evening, but if I do have the water prior to having a meal it's so much better. Also, as soon as you start feeling peckish, go and get a glass of water and keep sipping on that and continue it for as long as it takes.
As with the stopping smoking, sometimes a simple distraction like popping up stairs, even if you don't need to, is all we need to break the chain of thought and you forget all about feeling peckish - if it doesn't...then keep on going up and down stairs until it does! :rotfl:Chomp into an Apple or get yourself some ice pops or a lolly, anything that is long-lasting, it truly does do the trick. I know perhaps after work the last thing you feel like is exercise, but just a little could help you an awful lot in feeling less hungry and helping you to lose weight that you've put on too. It's hard to do I know, but with the munchies it really is far better not to buy them otherwise they're perpetually on your mind. Have you had your cholesterol level checked lately? Do be careful of it and try to cut down on the snacks ASAP and....reach for the water!Again though Kiwi thanks so much for the laugh!
Keep up the fantastic work everyone, keep a bottle of water close at hand and go easy on the snacking unless its fruit or ice pops then you can have plenty!

Hi tickled, that is absolutely wonderful news! You've done so very, very well and it sounds as though you're really very proud of yourself and you have every right to be, well done! :T:T I'm delighted you haven't used the E-Cig as by the end of today all nicotine will be out of your system and you won't be sucking on anything either! Thanks a lot tickled, you made my day! :jUsing hypnosis tapes will most certainly have done you good, I swear by them so keep it up whenever you need it. Thanks so much for telling us about your day 3 and thrilled to hear it. Here's looking forward to your next post!Keep up the great work!

Hi all!
Lovely to see your posts, Sue!
Sorry to hear that things are dragging on with your injuries though.:(
Haven't got time for a long post mentioning everyone by name,as I'm off for a workout, but a big welcome to all our newbies!
Stopping smoking really is 1 of the best things you can do for yourself and this thread certainly is a fabulous place for suppport/tips etc.
It's been over 10 mths for me now and I can honestly say there has not been 1 single day that I have regretted my decision to stop, but I have been so glad every day that I finally made it.Nicotine Free since 01.08.2010 :j:j:j

Well it's been a while since I posted here and it's been a long time since I had a craving to smoke. But today I got it bad and it's been a real struggle. It took me by surprise. How weird. I managed to tear myself away from the situation and go back to my hotel room and put some music on (Air does the trick). I still feel like smoking so I need to relax and do something else to take my mind off things.
593 days since I stopped. 99% of those have been fine. Today was not good. I have not thought about smoking for almost all the time since I stopped.
Anyway, it brings me back to reality reading all the new posts on here - loads of different people going through the same thing - it's addiction, that is what it is. It seems to leave a mental trace so that your mind takes control of you ages after you have stopped. Well all I can say is that you need to be on your guard and stay strong. Much easier said than done as I know too well.
All the best to everyone stopped/stopping/thinking of stopping/stopping again!

Good Morning!
Well I am on day 4 and feeling a little disheartened, all my information keeps telling me I should begin to feel better but I can't feel any difference.
I know it is still early days so I will carry on and it is nice to see my money jar filling up but I thought I would have more energy etc. I know everyone is different so I may feel improvements later in the week.
Also, it seems like every time I turn the tv on someone is smoking!2014 Wins - Chocs, Koala, Toiletries, Alton Towers Tickets, Budweiser Glass, Pizza, Dress, Canvas x 2, Hamper, Toucan Box, Specs, DVD, Baby Bouncer, Wine, £100 M&S Voucher, Easter Activity Pack, Nappy Cream, Men’s Shoes, Lindt Bunny, £50 Tesco Voucher, Ella's Kitchen Snacks
