So basically, the manufacturer's servicing schedule is the only thing that's worth anything and any other kind of servicing may or may not include some/all or none of the things on that schedule.
Is that right?0 -

the manufacturer's schedule will state that certain things must be replaced at certain mileages and/or ages. Other things are different even between two cars that are the same model.
For example, 2 ford focus cars. both will require oil to be changed at 10,000 miles or every year* whichever is first. But one may also need new brake discs/pads before the other because it spends its time in town, where the other one drives up and down the motorway - clocking up the miles but not using brakes much.
Dead easy to get the book stamped when you adhere to the manufacturer's service schedule. But you don't need to go to the main dealer for brakes to be replaced - you could have them done by your dad/son/brother/handyman because that doesn't get stamped in the book - but it's still a necessary part of car maintenance.
It's also not always necessary to go to the main dealer for servicing - it can be carried out by any vat registered garage but check your warranty/finance agreement before arranging work. I had a car a while back where any work had to be carried out by approved garage ie dealer for warranty to be valid.
*10k miles and 1 year used as example because I don't know what Ford specify for their servicing.

You're hired.
It takes me over half an hour to get the glove box out of my car, strip out the side of the heater, and get it back in, just to change the pollen filter.
As for the fuel filter, that's on the top side of the petrol tank.
And tightening the alternator belt, by the time you've got the wheel off, and the arch liner.....
Spark plugs, remove the engine cover, the coil pack.....0 -
