Bankruptcy & Civil Servants

Hi SMD,
Hope you're making progress with this one. If it's any help I'm employed as a team leader by HMRC (although on a career break right now). When I went BR last year I contacted by manager - he advised that things are no where near a bad as they used to be for civil servants (used to be bankrupt = sack). Unless you're dealing directly with financials it should not affect your position. He did stress that it is important to keep them informed though.
I should add that I was the 3rd member of his team to go bankrupt in 6 months and his team only consists of 15. Think that just about sums up the current financial climate!!
All the best. Chaz0 -
I've just been made surplus but have been offered a position as a JSA Team Leader. I'm wondering if Samijane69 has had a response from HR?0

I know it's been sometime since your bankruptcy but i am now in the same position as you where and I was wondering how you got on?up_the_creek wrote: »Hello
As i have mentioned in prev posts the best solution to my debt problems is bankruptcy. However, the stumbling block is my job (civil service). I intend to ring my HR Dept & welfare officer annonymously to find out what the situation is.
If the answer is no i was thinking of taking a chance & going bankrupt anyway & not telling them. Would they find out? Is their a req to tell the court/oficial rec who my employer is & would they inform my employer. Is it true they can find out because my tax code changes.
Has anyone evergone bankrupt & not told their employer.

I'm a team leader on a benefit processing section. Will this affect my job. I thought processes were in place so that if a person processed a claim then someone else had to authorise payments? Im really concerned cus i'm filing for bankruptcy begining of March.MCBIRNIE25 wrote: »Hi upthecreek, in the Civil Service, your job is only at risk if you have anything to do with handling money directly, i.e. pay out benefits and the like.
I have repped a few Civil Servants in this position.
Even then, the option is available to move you to a job where you are not open to corruption etc.
I would definitely speak to your PCS TU rep, who should be able to advise you accordingly. Need any further info then drop me a message.

I have seen a few posters in the civil service that have gone BR, and have not seen one where it may effect there position, but obviously that may depend on your role, so as stated, contact your HR anonoymously, just to be sure, but doubt it will be an issue, the only posters i have seen have a problem worked in the banking sector
Ironic really considering the number of banks faceing bankruptcy of late:p :rotfl:Thats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all ………….0 -

I work for the Civil Service (Pensions processing), I did a quick search out of interest on the intranet the other day, and saw nothing about bankruptcy.
