Laser Eye Surgery

I am considering Laser Eye Surgery & would be glad to hear good or bad experiences from anyone who has had it done recently anywhere in Belfast please.

Obviously cheapest prices etc. are not immediately important as the cost depends on the individuals needs.

  • Hi
I had laser surgery done three years ago this month(Jan). I had it done in optical express in Belfast. I went for the free consultation 1st to see if I could have it done. I could but because of my eye type & what i wanted done it cost me £2500 I couldnt wait to get it done. I was booked in for 4weeks later. I have to say the staff were really friendly & helpful- answered all my questions, explained everything in detail:j
Only downside was the recovery time:(-I leave 90mins away from Belfast so travelling home was unreal. Ithought I would never see home-if you live any distance away I would advise staying the night close by as you have a check up next day! They said I would have full vision within a week-mine was 3 weeks & even after this I had terrible night vision-the glare of car headlights was so bad I couldnt drive at night:(This continued for 8mths & they considered bringin me back to do more surgery but by Oct. it seemed to correct itself thankfully. I dont regret having it done as it is brilliant but just wish I had known that it would take so long to correct itself but everyone is different so may not take you as long hopefully.

I was told by an optician that as you get older your sight will deteriorate so depending on what age you are you will still need glasses to read, even when having had surgery done.

  • Yes I was told that someway down the line I would need glasses again but only for reading & if I did it would be 15-20 years away!

I had my eyes done at Optimax 3.5 years ago and would thoroughly recommend them.
I was able to read the number plates on the cars in front as I was being driven home - hard to explain how exciting this was!
Went for my check up the next day and then back to work. No pain at all - weird sensation having it done but no pain.

Cost me £1300 for both eyes which was discounted because I work for NHS (but they never looked for proof of this).

Just wish I had done it years ago!
  • I too thought you would still need reading glasses later on, but a friend of a friend who is in her 50's had it done recently and apparently that's no longer the case.
Will have to find out where it was done and confirm this, but i thought your eyes would still deteriorate with age anyway?
  • I had surgery on one eye 3 years ago. It cost £400 at Optimax in Belfast. Recovery took about a week, it felt like having grit in your eye - constant streaming etc. Once that healed though it was great. I no longer need glasses and have never regretted it. It was so cheap because I had a low prescription and had the basic surgery which is supposed to be more reliable but is not the back at work next day option. Was also able to use tesco vouchers to pay for it!

I'm 42 and my eyes arent suitable for laser eye surgery, so i assume a lot of people in their sixties wouldnt hav esuiteble eyes either. The surfave of mine is too thin for surgery.
