Hi,

I've currently got one of those very rare Orange Out Here PAYG sims that give you 5 free texts a day for life. I'm considering upgrading to a SIM only contract deal and would like to keep my current number, though that means my Orange Out Here free texts will be wasted. Has anyone else been through this? what did you do?

I'm not aware of any way to move the phone number without losing the current contract. Porting the number will terminate the contract, and asking for a change of number on your current sim will just lose the number.

I would recommend if you want a new contract, just get it fresh and get a new phone number with it.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies

To be honest 5 free texts a day is very little, I'd say the majority of contracts out there offer free unlimited text messages as standard now a days. For example you could keep your number, go to Giff Gaff and get unlimited texts for a fiver a month.
