Trying to cancel Next credit account... they keep fibbing about cancelling it!

Hi guys,
Apologies if this is in the wrong place, I couldn't find anywhere more suitable.
I've tried to cancel my Next credit account twice now, and each time I'm told 'yes, I'll get that done for you' and both times they haven't cancelled it! I can still log in and see that I have credit.
Is there anything you guys can suggest that I can do to cancel this account? Or is it just a case of keep ringing them until one of them actually does it? I want it completely closed so I no longer have credit with them, but obviously they have other ideas!
Thanks guys, and apologies if this is a stupid question

Hi,
When you do find a way of cancelling it please let me know. I have been trying for over 2 years - I have run numerous times, written letters and sent by recorded delivery and emailed - my account is still open with a stupid limit of £3750!

Oh, it worked! I've just logged in again and it says 'available credit: £0'.
Sarah (and anyone else having the same issue)... I'd suggest keep calling them on 0800 478 478, ask for the credit department and before ending the call, have them categorically confirm that the credit has been removed from the account. Then log in to your account after a few hours and cross your fingers!
Good luck!0 -
I recall getting an email from Next when I closed my account (admittedly this was a long time ago so things may be different now) informing me that if I ever changed my mind and wanted to use the account again I simply needed to login online using my old details and the account would be reactivated.
The account did show as 'settled' with the CRAs though. Eventually! Think it took a few months.
They still email me every couple of weeks- they do get points for persistence lol!0 -
I can't cancel mine, . i only went on line to buy a duvet cover and they sneakily opened an account for me!! i paid straightaway, and don't owe anything, but its annoying how sneaky they are.0

Yeah, they are extremely sneaky... I've never even used my account and never intended to, I just registered on their website and they automatically gave me a credit account. It didn't even mention it during registration, so I only found out when I saw that I had loads of credit... the !!!!!!s!0
-
Thats what happened to me, i didn;t even know until i ordered the duvet, that they had set up an account.0

Maybe worth giving them another call? It looks like my account is still active, but the credit limit is zero. It seems if you ask for the account to be closed they don't do anything, but if you ask for the credit to be removed this might do the trick!0

I too got confused by this one. Ordered some trousers, luckily it was worth the hassle as I got £10 off.0

Just a quick update... I logged into my account again today and the credit has now gone back up from zero to the credit limit I had before. I've spoken to Next again and they have said that they have 'blocked' the account so even though it shows I have available credit, I won't be able to use it. Don't know if that's another fib or if that means it's closed!
All I want is for this to not affect my credit score; does anyone know if it will?
Thanks guys!0 -
They gave me the runaround when I didn't read the small print closely enough and ended up with an unwanted credit account. I emailed them through their website multiple times laying out exactly what I wanted (i.e. completely closed and settled on credit report) and they played very dumb, tried to get away with merely "blocking" my account also, and sent me multiple emails asking if I was sure and wouldn't I want to leave it open as I was such a valued customer- I had bought absolutely nothing from them at that point as I had cancelled the order for the chair I'd been trying to buy when the whole debacle started anyway! Eventually they gave in and closed it so I would keep plugging away.
I got the impression that they don't think that people should be in the slightest bit concerned with having unused Next credit of thousands attached to their name.0
