end of contract with dialaphone new contract with mobiles.co.uk

Hi Everyone,

I have a question about end of contract. I was with orange through dialaphone for 18 months, I've just cancelled my contract because their upgrade offer/retentions offer was rubbish and will now end in a month.

I want to take out a new contract through mobiles.co.uk which will be with orange too (best deal) - I know I cant port my number because they're rather you go through the orange upgrade route but can I still take out a new contract with them and accept the new number they give me?

If I can, can I also start this new contract before my old one is up?

Thanks.

You can get away with two contracts per network at any one time, any more they will start questioning you in case of potential fraud. So yes you can get the contract with new number straight away.

First part true (apart from "get away with") but the second is nonsense. It is entirely possible without raising an eybrow to have multiple contracts with a network - a LOT more than two - at a time. If anything, it's more likely to be the dealer (though not Phones4u) who don't like you taking too many within a period of time across any number of networks.

In fact, once you have a contract with Orange you should be automatically eligible for up to 7 more in normal circumstances.

Got to agree with that, most of the time if you have one contract with a network, pay your bills on time then you'll get another, no questions asked. It's extremely common for one person to have three or four contracts for themselves and family members.

What is your problem - abusive as usual.
Learn some damn manners, read what is written and keep your nonsense to yourself.
    Goodbye forum!

Dear me. Persecution complex? My post was accurate, to the point and not abusive. If you don't like being contradicted make sure you know what you're talking about instead of making it up.

Thanks for that, I'm not wanting lots of contracts or anything just to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong if I start a new contract while in the last month of my existing contract.

The only thing to watch would be porting, but that wouldn't apply in this case. Each network has its own rules for how many contracts it allows - just as any organisation has its own particular credit scoring criteria/system. Vodafone (for example) waits until the first direct debit has been paid before allowing another contract in the first instance - though they don't once you have several. T-mobile allocate a set number for each customer - mine is 5. Orange allow up to 8 on the same account number unless the customer has a sub-normal rating. Generally, as Wintermute stated, networks like existing customers and are generally more than willing to supply multiple contracts. I currently have 7 contracts with 3 networks, though at other times was up to ten or eleven - five with one network at one time but could have more.

Don't worry about the network - they'll do everything they can to encourage you to take out another contract (at least) regardless of what you do with the existing one. With no missed payments and a clean credit record they'd be more than happy to allow you a lot more than 2 without asking any questions at all, so if you like the new deal don't hesitate merely because the existing contract is still running.
