fatal system error

Ok SuperAS ran and found three errors - got rid of them and rebooted (without the CD and was still blue screen) Have just ran CCleaner and that has done.
Is there anything else I need to do?
Many thanks for your help on this btw.0 -
I have only ran the cleaner - do I need to run the Registry or do anything else?0
-
Yes, run the scan for issues, select the back up option and note where it is saved to, run it until it shows no issues, but make sure to use the back up option each time you run it
Is it booting properly yet?0 -
Ok that has now been done - I am currently still booting up from Hirens BootCD under Mini XP mode.
Is it worht trying to boot up normally now?0 -
It sounds like your window install is well and truly broken, if it were me and I could boot from a CD, get access to the drives and get my data (since my last external backup anyway) off to an external USB drive thats what I would do then start with a fresh install of windows.
Alternatively
There is a repair option on Windows XP install CD, reinstalls all the basic files and sets up the registry, sometimes works. (enough to get a system to but up and work on)

you can then go on to tackle any malware issues etc.0 -
Ahh - I am hoping I dont have to but fear you may be correct....
Also as i bought the laptop from Ebay i dont have my XP CD :mad:0 -
You can borrow one as long as it is the same version as installed
If you can get to start then run and type sfc /scannow (with the space) does it start a scan?
If you click start then run and type chkdsk /r does that show a box asking if you want to reboot to run the check?0 -
when I try the sfc /scannow it comes up with the message 'Windows Cannot find 'sfc'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again'
Nothing happens when I try the chkdsk.
Again thanks for your help on this.
I have seen other posts elsewhere that mention that the winlogon.exe file may be located in the wrong place and that I need to move it - is it worth having a go at this???0 -
Has to be worth a go0
