fatal system error

I have a 'fatal system error' as described in the this post
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2700509
Bascially I had a warning on my Avira saying that I had a winlogon.exe threat/virus, a iexplorer.exe threat/virus and one other that I can't remember.
I rebooted and started in safe mode, ran a full Malwarebytes scan - it found a couple of viruses and so I removed them.
When I restarted there were no icons, taskbar or start button on my desktop so I decided to try a system restore to a date a week ago.
Once this took place I then got the blue screen and the fatal system error - exact same one as in the post above - still get the same blue screen when I start in safe mode now or last know good configuration.
I have followed the instructions in the post linked above and so far I managed to download Hirens boot cd and can boot mini xp from that.
From this I ran SuperAntiSpyware and it found one item - System.BrokenFileAssociation which I removed. When I try and run Malwarebytes I get a 'Run-time error '0'' and then RTE 440.
I also tried to download Kasperskys CD and I think it worked ok as it ran in my machine and showed 7 errors but for some reason it didnt list/show them. I hit the quarentine button, nothing really happened and when I then tried to boot normally I still get the fatal system error. One thing that lead me to think that it might not have downloaded correctly is that I had to burn the Kaspersky CD using BURNCDCC.exe (from Hirens file) as I could not seem to burn it using Nero.
Apologies for the long post but I thought I would try as much as poss from the other post before asking on here. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,
Mark.

Sorry to bump this but any advice as to what to do next would be very helpful.

Restart the computer. When the computer is booted, press the F8 button. Choose the last known good configuration and then press enter.

You could start system restore from a command prompt by tapping F8 just after pressing the power button, selecting the command prompt option and by typing
%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
then press enter

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I tried both these options and they both just bring me back to the same 'fatal system error' screen.0 -
If you press the DEL key as soon as the first screen shows, is there an option to select fail safe defaults, if yes, select that and press F10 to save0

I have actually got Hirens boot CD to load now - what should I run from this to clean up - at the minute I am just running SuperAntiSpyware0

Tried to run this but when I do I get a load of error messages that say 'The procedure * could not be located in the DLL sfc.dll' and then it says 'you need Adminstrative privileges to run this tool'0

This error is produced when it found by Windows NT kernel that either of the two processes Csrss.exe or Winlogon.exe has failed.
It is better to utilize a registry cleaner software when the error still does not go away.

Run CCleaner if you have that, if not it is here, my preference is for the slim build
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds
You can get a fully functional trial of Tune Up which some people don't like, though these people do
http://www.tune-up.com/products/tuneup-utilities/awards/
No need to purchase it as it will find everything it is going to on the current configuration within a day or so0 -
I did already have ccleaner on my bad laptop so I can run that after the SuperAntiSpyware has done.
With the TuneUp - as I cant get on the net from the bad laptop is it a case of burning to to a CD and putting it in?0 -
You could try a pendrive as well, Tune Up isn't essential if CCleaner does it0
