Meh I've got some that I need to get round to selling - but the shops that do it are in-town which is a hassle and mainly slightly grimy dubious looking places... I'd happily chuck it in the bag on my way to do my shopping and get it sorted out there.

As for the ins and outs of selling it - the stuff I have is stuff I thought looked good as a teenager (it didn't), or gifts from my idiot father who thought ignoring your daughter for 364 days of the year, then showing up with some stupidly expensive bit of gold jewellry made him father of the year... I don't even WEAR yellow gold - it doesn't suit my skin tone at all! No need to worry about passing it onto kids - can't have 'em lol.

It's most likely they are affiliated with a company, and are simply a middle man.

It's how they run a couple of other sections of their business. For instance, their Tyre section, which simply works alongside Black Circles, and simply passes the business onto black cirlces and take a slice of the profit.

Their DVD rental service is lovefilm.

Their MP3 download service is run by someone else too.

Tesco Mobile is all run by another mobile companies network (3 I think?)

Using the Tesco name, and massive customer base simply creates sales which they can take a slice of the profit on. It's easy, no overheads and they can simply drop it without any effect on their business as soon as they want to.

It's a good business model. I'd be really happy to have nothing on the highstreet but Tesco, who sell on everyone else's products. Think about it: you could park and every single item, product or service you ever wanted would be uniform and made to standard. No need for all these restaurants, services and shops to be all different and unique anymore, which would be a relief for my senses. I want uniformity. I want perfect mediocrity. I don't want anything awful but I also don't want anything amazing. I want everything to just be average and trouble free. A personality free zone where I don't have to think. A sterile protected environment. I want to be like everyone else. I want homogenity. I want complete and utter consistancy of product. I want sameness and similarity to every single thing I conform.*

    * Post intended to be slightly tounge in cheek. But only slightly. Post also intended to wind up Graham, who will in turn wind me up by replying with: "But you can park and everything is cheap. People have a choice where to shop, I don't see the problem. But landlords on the other hand? Bah, now there's an immoral business I have a problem with. Did I mention that I like that you can park at Tesco?".

Don't include me in that 'us'! Although I will obviously have to shop there when in 2021 every shop and service within a 50 mile radius is a Tesco Something and the government pass a law that it's illegal to shop anywhere else. Possibly.

It's gonna be even better shopping there soon!

Looks like the trial of scan as you shop went well, and they are rolling it out to other large stores this year.

Simply scan the item as you put it in your trolley. No unloading the basket onto the checkout, then loading it all back in.

No shocks at the checkout when it comes to the total.

    Excellent.

Tesco corporate treasury likely sees the Euro going phut, £ unsteady and $ collapsing and wants to have a bullion position. Don't forget TEsco want to go large in China, so maybe they think a gold war chest will last better than fiat paper?

Oh yes, absouteley definitely. Tesco want to have a bullion position and are choosing to get there by buying earrings. Bound to be.

That sounds awful-tastic. Hopefully they will also provide me with Tesco headphones that play Tesco-pop so that I don't have to make any contact with any human at any point of the whole experience. And if anyone tries to speak to me I'll just dribble at them.

Well they said this year. Found it (sadly) in the half year report when I was looking into it regarding shares.

I don't particularly like the self scan checkouts if I have more than a few items, but can see scan as you shop being a benefit. Not sure how it all works though!
