When some big businesses such as Tesco's are willing to buy your Jewellery, do alarm bells ring in your head ? like 'why the hell do they want to buy my gold necklace?'
It's obvious they know something you don't, so please don't be a fool, I recommend holding on to grandma's locketAs an investor, you know that any kind of investment opportunity has its risks, and investing in Stocks or Precious Metals is highly speculative. The only time you should ever sell Jewellery given to you as a gift, or maybe from your dead parents is when you are dying of starvation. As an investor, you know that any kind of investment opportunity has its risks, and investing in Stocks or Precious Metals is highly speculative. This is a shrewd move by Tesco which has seen a developing market and jumped into it. They've done this many times before, with insurance, mobile phones and a whole host of other things. It has nothing to do with being tin foil hatters.
In reality it is probably a clever move. If they offer a higher price than the rip-off merchants per gram, people will be happy, Tesco will still make a killing and they'll have yet another nice little cash cow. If it ceases to be profitable it will never be their core business and they can drop it. They are also doing it a time when a) the price of gold is known to be high by the general population because the telly tells us so, and b) there are people struggling to make ends meet.
Of course, jewellery prices are not just dictated by the price of precious metals, but also the complexity of production. It is a great shame when people don't realise that for jewellery in a reasonable condition a better option is to sell it as a second hand jewellery item rather than for scrap. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Or it's been in the back of a drawer for 10 years because it's the ugliest thing you've ever seen?
When my nan died and her effects were dished out mom bought a diamond ring which she never ever wore. She gave it to me a few years ago and it's been in my jewellery box ever since. I see it as a complete waste of money, mom could've had a holiday or something nice. As it is it's like there's loads of money just sitting in the dark not gaining interest, not giving any pleasure to anyone. You can't take it with you so if youi can, get rid and enjoy life.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I agree that you can not take it with you but if you do not really need it now then your children or their children may really need the value of it in the future. Therefore it is not yours to sell you are looking after it for those who may depend on it later.
