in Credit cards
i have missed 4 payments on my credit card, i had a direct debit set up to debenhams (santander) which i have now found for some unknown reason hasnt been collected for the past 4 months
I was going to do a balance transfer tomorrow to this card, would i still need to clear the missed payments on top of this or will they be classed as paid by the balance transfer?
hope this makes sense

i'd imagine so, but as the accounts been defaulted you may be declined for another, i fail to see how you could not notice non payment for 4 months, santander would have contacted you within that time0

thanks! i have the card ready for the balance transfer so thats not a problem, santander have never contacted me, i rang them to get a balance for the b/t and thats when they told me, i then checked my bank and they havent took the payment for 4 months, rang back to try and find out why but they dont know?

The originator controls the collection of the direct debit from your bank account. Not the bank. So, you should look to the card provider to see why they havent collected payments.
You also need to look at how you control your finances as its very poor that you havent picked this up for over 4 months. It doesnt take long to do a weekly reconciliation. Failure to control and reconcile accounts are a common reason for incurring charges and having problems.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I can see where the poster has come from about checking though, you would not only see on your bank statment but also on the card statment its self.0

Was it actually set up or did you just think it was? Did the statement say:
"Payment of £xxx will be taken by DD from your nominated account on or after: date"?
Oh silly me, I forgot.....you don't read statements.
