There really doesn't seem a lot of point in quoting a url AND copying out the whole of the page.
If you are going to copy an article, then it's only proper to quote the website (even if it is a Govt. one!)

    Hi

Conversely, there is also a matter of both etiquette and copyright to consider.

It is usual to provide a short extract from the site and also provide a link for a more detailed read if necessary ..... quoting verbatim a copy of that amount of copyright material will likely breach IPO & usage T&Cs from most sources and also likely breaches the T&Cs applicable to usage of this forum ...

I thought that being 'proper' was observing etiquette!
Or did you mean it conflicts with the copywrite issue ?? I'd have thought that they compliment each other.
    - even when it struggles to produce 0.11KW, as it did this afternoon.
In it's defence, it is on a west facing roof
An east facing roof would be a defence in that case :)
Is your monitor not calibrated in watts? I was wondering why you didn't just quote '110W'.

    Hi

I agree that quoting a short excerpt and a link to the source material is regarded as being the 'proper' approach, however, the issue in these matters really revolves around the amount of material which is quoted prior to referencing a link to the source.

As is the case for the majority of fora, guidance on etiquette & copyright are published along with other rules, T&Cs .... here they are available in the forum page header above, alternatively here's the link to the etiquette post ... (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=3477038&postcount=29).

The issue for the MSE forum, amongst others, revolves around a usual claim of copyright on the content of all posts resulting in potential responsibility & accountability for copyright breach if copyrighted material is posted verbatim, that's why only short excerpts and source material links should be used.

The T&C link is crystal clear so posting whole pages indefensible.

It's also the approach generally adopted in printed works - quote one or two relevant sentences and list source so that reader can pop along to library and verify. Anything more than that turns a pamphlet into a tome.

However, my objection was simply that it's incredibly boring having to sift through a mass of irrelevance in the hopes of finding something that might be relevant.

Hi Z, Thanks for the support - my BP thanks you.

My earlier post was (slightly) tongue-in-cheek: I love my system and would never do anything to harm it - really! - even when it struggles to produce 0.11KW, as it did this afternoon.

In it's defence, it is on a west facing roof and, as you say, it's down to averages. Perhaps I could move it somewhere near teachergirl and jackieblack, who seem to get more sunshine than the sahara desert ... :D

I know how you feel, my ESE system can be frustrating when the weather is great in the afternoon, but dull all morning. Have to remind myself that what goes around .....

DNO are re-cabling all the houses near me. Next Tuesday they're switching the power off from 9.30am to 2pm, just in time for the sun to start going over the roof. Sod's Law?

They cut the power last Tuesday, for 30 mins, dead on 12noon (at 2.2kW ahhh). Interesting to see the inverters shut down safely, and then go through their restart procedures afterwards. No probs, no issues.

Nice day today, good start to March so far.

Interesting; but would be more so if we knew where you are... maybe people who make comments about weather and/or performance could say where they are and/or what system they've got, so the info. can be compared a bit more readily?

Morning Barter, shouldn't really speak for Seagull, but he has previously said he's in Mid Wales. Possibly a 2.2 or 2.4 system, but memory not quite that good.

    S. Wales got good sun yesterday, and hopefully excellent sun today. Was generating 108W at 7am this morning.

So distances of 100 miles or so, giving huge differences in weather, here in the land of the 4/5 Grandslam!

    Mart.

In 4 hours around Noon, you could lose up to 16kw (around £7 or £8). Or of course nearer 25p if weather anything like yesterday  Well worth asking DNO if they're offering compensation for your loss. Afraid I've no idea whether or not you're entitled to it but asking will cost nothing and not asking will absolutely guarantee you don't get it.

(added later) Elsewhere on the MSE pages I've found postings suggesting that to be entitled to compensation you need 18hrs of outage (either all at once or in several episodes). But I also found a posting suggesting that a politely written and well reasoned complaint might well result in an ex gratia payment. So still worth claiming.

Not worth taking any action for tens of pounds but if faced with a long series of such cuts with no prospect of compensation it would be relatively straightforward to sever all connection with grid for the day and temporarily convert inverter(s) to work in 'off-grid' mode. Not an action that should be taken without a great deal of skill and experience though - shutting down inverters when mains fail is done to ensure that network really is 'dead' when repair crew are working on it.

We're having a great day (so far) today. Started generating at 7am though it took an hour to get up to 500w. Now (10:20) nudging 2.5kw so I'm running dishwasher - not quite 'free' as d/w (in heating cycle) + base load exceed generation by 200w but still a lot cheaper than an E7 load. Might even do a load of washing when d/w finishes.

We're still of course ten days short of equinox - which ought to represent somewhere near annual average - so maybe there's six months to run with many days better than today ?
