Funny you should mention the "angle of dangle" as it were. I was at the Zoo on Sunday and they have roof mounted panels on a fixed frame (flat roof); really surprised that there wasn't a small motor there just to shift the panel throughout the day, as I would have thought that would be a no-brainer. Just program a chip with the days of the year and some fairly rough angles and I'm sure you could optimise things. Perhaps a bit of a risk in structural terms if there were high winds?
Matt
Personally I would have thought it more than a 'bit of a risk'. I would have thought it a high possibility that there would be structural damage to a roof.0 -
Agree, though given that the set that I saw that prompted my thoughts were already at something like a 45 degree angle on a first floor flat roof I would have thought that that offered a substantial risk in any event.
But then again, all you need is an anemometer in the setup to measure windspeed and reduce the angle as appropriate depending on the readings.

There's probably loads of different types, here's one site that sells flat roof brackets that can be screwed down or ballasted!!!! I'd probably do both, belt and braces.

Can't really see why frames on a flat roof can't be adjusted, probably depends simply on the extra cost of the mount v's the extra income. And if someone is willing to adjust.
Finally got some of the sun back from all the lads and lasses in Essex, still only 5 units though, as the sky was 'dirty' (for want of a better word) till 11.30am, damn!
Mart.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

Very impressive results Don
But no security seal on the meter ? I thought it was compulsory ?
If I could harvest the CH4 given off by my septic tank, run it through a little generating motor over night, use the cooling water to heat a radiator and feed the electricity it through a generation meter; would I be morally entitled to claim the FiT on it?
Never mind all this stuff about the tonnes of CO2 saved by a roof of PV Panels - Methane has a high global warming potential: 72 times that of carbon dioxide over 20 years, and 25 times over 100 years,[26] and the levels are rising.
Should merit a FiT of £10 a kWh surely?jackieblack wrote: » teachergirl
I know exactly what you mean about work/family
Please keep popping in when you can though, there appears to be alot of testosterone flying around lately and it's all been getting a bit competitive/confrontational

Good idea John, sounds like you're sitting on a goldmine, literally! :rotfl:

The good people of South Essex are under selling their birthrights ?
Never mind the Scots and North Sea oil, we are the custodians of "mountains" of London's festering garbage.
Where there is muck there is money?
Since 1776 until recent times, the riverside people of Kent (and Essex) were reprocessing London's dustbin waste - valuable stuff for those Dickensian characters.
Must get back on thread.:D0 -

It's not sunny here today, (and wasn't yesterday either) but that's just this corner - it's possible the rest of the county is basking in glorious sunshine
