Tips to avoid slapping partner with a fish?

Okay bad title, but he's doing my head in.

Finances are a joke, we have to sit and pray the leccy doesnt get switched to a pay as you go meter (and lose our tariff etc) as we're seriously, seriously late paying (student loan money coming 10th, told them we can pay then and will pay the full balance ofc).... I now know that his old current acc bank have referred him to a DCA so he's promising that he's going to pay them off too... we have next to nothing left and a bucket of debt and he just doesn't seem to be bothered by it?!

I know everyone is different, has different boiling points and differing ways of coping, but if he says "it'll all be fine..." one more time, I may start throwing things in his direction.

  • One of you is a student? If so, have you looked into the Access to Learning Fund at the University?

We both are, but as far as I am aware, we don't qualify for any top-up funds or grants on top of what we can have through the SLC. Thanks for the suggestion though, I'll double check. x

sometimes it's just a man thing.... (sorry to those men who handle their debt and have sleepless night because of it)

I could quite often swing for mine - but I love him and know it's his way of being supportive (trying to get me not to worry)

I pretty much handle the finances - it makes life easier and stops me lumping him with something heavy :)

One of the other boards might be able to help with your money problems - do a SOA and decide which bills need how much to be paid in which order...

Good luck, and try to smile and not go down for assulting him xx

ATL should be avialible to all students. I wasn't entitled to any grants etc but i did get some money from thATL fund.

Other suggestion would be look at the debt free wannabe board for tips on managing your debts

and the old style board for tips of cutting back and saving

  • Hit him with a cheap lobster from Lidl instead?
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

I'd just hit him with the fish, won't solve anything but might make you feel better. Good luck.

  • Completely different views about money-management can be a make-or-break thing in a relationship. I wouldn't be happy being with someone who was so very Pollyanna about bills mounting up and this would be made so much worse when there's just not enough to go round.

You need to have a serious talk and get some plans in place to manage your bills and debts while you still can.
