cdbrown wrote:Proper USB support of 98se is rubbish at best. I found I needed to plug the pen drive into an xp machine to get the full details of the pen so I could download the proper drivers. Worked after that but for every new pen drive a new driver is required as the generic ones don't work for everything.
I did that but no helpful info is showing, serves me right for buying cheap stuff
Thanks

Windows ME supports most of not if not all USB pen drives without specific drivers.
If you can get the pc updated from Win98 to this, life becomes a whole lot easier for usb stuff.
I might be stating the blatantly obvious but can you get the 400 mbytes burnt onto a blank cd?
THen load it back on..0 -
Search for a DOS app called DUSE 4.4
It is a Win98se USB Support program, and would allow you to have the USB drive found and loaded at startup. Bootdisk.org also have a Win98se startup disc (floppy or ISO image) with DUSE built in for USB support.
One other thing. The USB slot MUST be directly connected to the mobo to have it found by Win 98. If you try to run it through a hub (or PCI card), it simply won't do what you're asking it to do.0 -

I would of burned a disk but there PC hasnt got a CDRW drive just CDR so I put there HDD into my PC as a slave and just copied the stuff to my HDD then from my PC burned a CD, I wouldnt want to upgrade their machine to ME as its the worst OS MS ever made.

Yep its direct to the MOBO so a look for DUSE will be a must :beer:0 -

I would have said in terms of sheer "false sense of security", the first attempt at XP was the worst by some distance, followed by the final version of 2000, but hey, we all have our opinions...0 -

Lol, ME by far is the worst I say is as it has more holes in it than my favourite old pair of socks, XP did have 12mb of updates 2weeks after release I grant you but ME still has about 20mb still unpatched.0
