Well, a good couple of days:
- Received my Inland Revenue cheque for £245
- Have £240 cash to get in the bank (whenever I get a spare minute to get there)
- Found out I'm definitely not being made redundant and job is secure (for a wee while anyway)
- Got offered a Cencus Enumerator position which with all the NI and tax deductions shoul be about £600

So...final letter received for my Halifax debt accepting my offer of £20 a month so that's all set up now. Took them long enough! Don't think the guy on the phone appreciated me laughing at him when he said the final payment will be in June 2021!
So the plan now is to wait about 3-4 months til I have 60% of the outstanding balances (about £3.4k) and start offering full and final settlements. Might even start earlier than that and do them 1 by 1 - biggest debt first! All should get a nice low figure except Halifax - the stubborn idiots just won't sell my debt! Maybe it's a bonus that Wescot are dealing with it on their behalf now though.
Only 1 debt I haven't done anything about - just a wee £437.50 overdraft but is with Equidebt so should get a nice wee figure from them too!
Everything is going so well I'm waiting on some major disaster now!!0 -
OMG...and while writing that last post I called Equidebt (I don't answer my home phone but they had blocked my voicemail as they had left 2 voicemails per day for the last week!)
They are having a "full and final settlement campaign"...LOL
Wanted to offer me a final settlement on my £2779.05 account for just £1389.53 (50%!).
Even said I could pay it over 4 months! Kind of hoping I haven't done the wrong thing by telling them I wouldn't accept the offer. Did say I'd be intrested in a lower offer though - 50-60% of what he said! If they're able to offer 50% straight away then reckon they can come down again!
Think I might send them a nice wee letter thanking them for the offer and telling them I'd consider 25% or something...I wonder if sending them chocolates would be inappropriate as a little bribe?? Lol0 -
Dear Debt-Free Diary,
Well, that's a week's holiday gone and I've done very well not to spend any dosh apart from bits of food shopping.
Decided to make the most of my last day and write out to 2 of my debts offering full and final settlement (did one the other week for largest debt but haven't heard anything yet). Have offered stupid amounts...below 20% which I'll obviously not get but might get a nice little counter offer from them. I'm hoping I can get rid of all the debts by August so that exactly 5 years after getting my mortgage I would change to repayment and overpay a bit too!
In other news, have tidied up my flat but not having much luck finding someone to rent my spare room. Think I'm being too picky just looking for short term lets. Hopefully something will com up soon.
Have opened my ISA account for 2011/12 at a nice 3% interest. The plan is to use the full allowance next year. And my 3 year plan would be to buy one of my Dad's properties using my ISA money for the deposit.
Quite enjoying all these plans I have going on in my head - just wish it could all happen faster. I am waaaay too impatient!
Hopefully I have some good news with the full and finals for my next update!

Well, received a reply from Equidebt rejecting my offer of £500 to clear £2779 balance. Bit disappointed they didn't come back with a counter offer. Just said "your next payment is due on 26th Feb". Never mind, can always try again in a few months and no doubt they will phone at some point to give me an offer as they did a couple of weeks ago.
Bit of good news (I think!)...logged on to Halifax online banking and have noticed my credit card no longer appears. I'm hoping that means the debt is now completely sold on to Wescot. Was getting a bit worried as I bank with Halifax and have opened their new Reward ISA as it's such a good rate. Hopefully now I can start putting money there without the fear that they would offset my debt! Think I might give Wescot a wee call to doubly make sure they now own this debt though!
On the spare room front, I have someone coming to view it tomorrow. That would be a nice little added bonus! And if my creditors don't want to be accepting any of my full/final offers, I could probably look into doing a stocks and shares ISA too!
Looking forward to another quiet weekend of no spending (well, hopefully it will be!) xx0 -
Call me old fashioned lvm, but with the money you have recently got from Inland Revenue and the £240 cash (from where I can't remember) would pay off the two smaller moble accounts Would that not be a good idea and they start chipping away at another? Billie x:j I belong to Mike's Mob :j0
