Swap faulty iphone for free?
Hi all,
I have a faulty iphone 3gs. It reboots during calls.
I have just been on ebay and a guy on there says that for £40 he will have the faulty phone exchanged for a brand new one. You have to send him your serial number first to see if it can be done. His feedback is 100%.
Rather than send him my phone and £40, I would rather just get it swaped myself. How do I do this please?
Any ideas?
Thanks

He is checking phone in warranty then you pay him £40 for him to send the phone back to apple to get replaced
you can do this yourself in the apple store and have £40 for yourself :-)0 -

Thanks all.
No store in Leeds, nearest is 40 mile away. Is there a way I can enter the serial somewhere to avoid a wasted trip?
I bought the phone on ebay ( used) July 10, so not sure how old it is nowOn the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.0 -

when was it bought new? from the day the first person bought it you have a 1 year warranty, so if it is less than a year old you can get a refurb one or have it repaired.
if it is out of this date then you can still have an out of warranty refurb one but there will be a charge (think it is something like £180).
perhaps you could ring apple or online chat with them and say that your phone is not working right.
but before you do all that have you tried doing a full restore (connect to itunes and click 'restore')0 -
Thanks again.
I have done a full restore on the phone. I even set up itunes on a different laptop and started 100% fresh again in case the software was at fault.
It still crashes during a long call ( 4 - 15 minutes). It seems a common problem when I google it with no solution. On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.0 -
you could try a restore in recovery mode or DFU mode (in that order)
info how to put the phone in both modes here try the recovery mode first, if that doesnt fix it try a DFU mode restore, it shouldnt make any difference but I would select 'set up as a new iphone' when it gives you the option.
both are pretty safe to do so shouldn't break the phone but as always 'at your own risk' is the nature of the game.0
