Hi Doozergirl. Waiting to speak to a builder whos a member of the master builders federation??? Hopefully we will get it sorted without BC involvement.
Yes the draft contracts have arrived, been given a date of the 7th Dec for completion. Got a phone call the other day though from the EA selling this house who said 'not to worry' but the bloke we outbid had a complaint with the BS selling the house and everything has been put on hold. Something to do with his lost fees, searches etc. I am worrying now. Seems so unfair, we are given deadlines but they can do whatever they like. Gonna speak to SOL tomorrow. Have you heard of anything like this?0 -
I'd guess that this whole issue relates to not having any barrier between the kitchen and the upstairs area of the house. I think that's part of regs now - you can't have open plan stairs in a kitchen and then a landing upstairs.
It might be easier (and cheaper) to see if putting a fire door at the bottom of the stairs would satisfy regs. If that's the case then you could get one fitted and placate things that way?
hth
ps. of course the buyer could remove the door after purchase but that's beyond your control.0 -
Hi thanks for replying. The stairs dont run off the kitchen. Theres a small hall in the centre of the house off which are the kitchen, living room, dining room and the bottom of the stairs. The stairs go up the centre of the house to a now open plan landing. This is one nightmare. Just had a call from said builder who it turns out isnt in the federation thingy! Ah well back to BC.
It could only happen to us :rolleyes:0 -
why not ask the local fire department to come and give you informal fire prevention advice, and pick their brains ?0

What a great idea!:T I had the local police come by my house for a security survey. They then mailed me a complete report with recommendations. There was no charge.FREEDOM IS NOT FREE0 -

Unless he's going to up his bid, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Fingers crossed it will give you the breathing space to sort out this fire thing.
Being gazumped isn't unique to buying reposessed properties, it's a potential problem with buying any property, especially if you know you are offering cheap. Therefore, I can't see this guy has a leg to stand on. He took a risk on trying to bag himself a bargain and failed. His problem.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

You'll forget by the next time you want to move. Then you'll remember when it all starts again! :rolleyes:Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Just an update.
Just spoke to my buyer, she said she spoke to the surveyor who surveyed my house and caused all this mess. He said in a 2 storey house fire retardent walls arent required but he cant write a letter to support this Aaaaaagh.
Ok for me to pay them another £150 quid though to get a letter.
Sorry for the rant, just needed to get it off my chest.
My buyer is going to ring her lender and see what they say.0
