Has anyone gone out and bought this yet? Is it worth buying?

Not quite sure about the question.

Freeview+ is just the name for a Freeview box that allows you to record to it's hard drive. Just the same principal as Sky+.

They are nothing new. It's Freeview HD that you might be thinking of.

I already have freeview and a freesat tuner built in, but I cannot record, so I want to know if the "record" bit is any good really:-)

These are known as PVRs, I used to have a Humax which are well regarded as a good performer as are the Topfield.

There is no degradation of picture quality.

I bought one about 4 years ago, perhaps longer, long before the phrase "freeview+" was even in use. At the time they were called PVR (personal video recorders) (I think). It is fantastic - I'd even go so far as to say it is the bext money I have ever spent. So easy to operate and navigate round. I love it. So so easy compared to video tapes or even recordable DVD's. I too have freeview built into my telly, but the "record" facility of the box improves it by a mile. Worth every penny I can't recommend it enough.

The record function on Freeview is fantastic and you'll quickly wonder how you ever managed without it. You'll be able to record two programmes simultaneously, record a whole series with nothing more than a single click and retain a back-catalogue of all your favourite programmes for when live TV does not live up to expectations.
By far the most user-friendly boxes are those of the HUMAX variety which can start from as low as £79 on their website. Google this make and you'll quickly become convinced as to the pedigree of its offerings.

How good the recording is will depend on signal coverage and hardware quality and/or interface design. Unless you get a crappy device that crashes all the time or has an interface in Mandarin with no English option, or you just have a poor RF signal, then the recording should be exactly what you would expect it to be.

There's probably not much difference between hard disk recorders, so if you can try one at a friend's house it'll probably work very similarly if you get a different brand.

I have sky plus and i think its the same i find it fantastic amd thinking off now buying the freeview plus instead.

You will never even think about a vcr after using digital recording.
