The agenda is the same, Carbon Tax!

In the winter it’s called “Climate Change” in the summer it’s called “Global Warming”…. The agenda is the same, Carbon Tax!

Remind us when the Intergovernmental Panel on Global Warming changed it's name.

The agenda certainly is Carbon reduction, if you have a better idea than taxing it, let us all know. After all, we hardly have any carbon taxes specifically for climate change yet so you can get in on the ground floor.

do the levies on electricity count as a carbon tax
and the increases in petrol taxes
  • Merely an excuse for them to load up the tax burden.

Amazes me how many gullible fools actually believe them.

Might be more believable if the government weren't making so much money out of it.
  • i dont know if the carbon issue and dammage is real or not, but its always seemed that governments didnt give a damn till they figured out how to profit from it.

You do have a point about this.
The government past and present were/are using environmental issues for revenue raising purposes rather than actually doing something about it.:(

So you have a corporation using X energy per year.
Using renewable energy is more expensive than non-renewable.

Getting the corp to use renewable energy requires, in some round about way:
    1. Making renewable sources cheaper (spending money on subsidies)
    2. Making non-renewable more expensive (carbon tax)

We don't have the money to spend on #1. Simples.

More 'simple minded' than 'simples' (God, I hate these mindless cliches). The correct answer is - don't do it at all.

Distorting the energy market is creating a recipe for utter chaos in the UK. Just wait until you switch on the lights and nothing happens. Not long now.

That for me is the critical issue: energy security. Personally I don't have a problem with renewables, whether or not global warming exists. My issue is with being overly reliant on unstable governments for power, competing with more and more economies for power at a reasonable price, and our nuclear power generation capacity going backwards.

I don't profess to know the answer is, I'd just like the government to do something and do it before the light switching moment above happens.

The levies on electricity are partly to do with ensuring energy security by lessening our reliance in importing either fossil fuels (2 wars and counting) or Uranium (0 wars - yet).

If the perfect carbon capture device were discovered tomorrow, the petrol taxes, originally designed to reduce pollution and congestion, would not change.

There - fixed it for you :)
