Photos on Computer question?

I have a number of photo programmes on my computer, ie Adobe 3 downloader, My Pictures, Zoom Browzer EX(Canon), Digital Photo Professional, Adobe Photoshop Elelments 2. I understand that I can look at any of the pictures in all of the programmes, but the question is does each individual programme have the same copies, in other words are the pictures stored in 4 places or do they each pull the pictures off of the hard drive in other words from just one source. Does that make sense to anyone? It may seem a stupid question but as my computer seems a bit slow as I turn it on I wonder if this could be the reason. I have an 80ggbt drive and still have about 47% space and I have defragmented the computer. Hope this is the right place to ask this question.

No there wont be 4 copies stored, it will just open the picture with that program.
Have you ran an anti virus scan?Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
Thank you iwantosave - Yes I have done a virus scan - I had a virus once before and it slowed everything down then. I am using Orange - Wanadoo at the moment and go live with TalkTalk in the next two weeks so I am hoping that they may speed things up - or not! I did have trouble with wanadoo - this evening I had a message at 10pm saying that they were very busy and couldn't connect me and that happens a lot.0

Some programs save files in their own proprietary file format and so you may have multiple copies of your photos if you have opened and then saved them in the different programs (as opposed to just opening them). This shouldn't slow your computer down though (unless you have all the programs open at once and then you'd be lucky if it worked at all!)

So it is the internet that is slow, rather than the computer itself?Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
Sorry giving conflicting stories here. Computer is slow to start up after I have logged on. Hence the idea that the pics programmes could be slowing things down, also now I seem to be having trouble getting on line after everything is up and running. Sorry should have said that now everything is on a go slow - a bit like me really.0

What anti virus are you running? Do you have a spyware/malware scanner like ad-aware?Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0

I have Norton antivirus and Firefox and I think that Microsoft have their own as well, I haven't heard of the ones you mentioned. My Norton antivirus was the 2003 version, but I recently updated it to 2005 for free with Google.
Do you think I have enough computer protection?. It is very kind of you to take all of this trouble.0 -
I honestly dont know a thing about norton
never used it, so never read up about it, but I should think it is adiquate.
Did it start all of a sudden? or maybe after you downloaded something?Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0
