Has the line actually been installed and connected.

if so just dial 17070 and it will tell you the number on the line.

The line is in the house now with a white socket on the end but it hasnt been 'connected' by any company, im not with anyone if that makes sense. SO how do i get it connected? is that what line rental is? also if i want my son to play on xbox live will 60gb allowance be enough? He wont be on it all the time

You need to contact BT, Sky, Youcalls, etc etc to provide you a service line rental and a call package + telephone number.

You would probably need to go with BT to start as they would tell you if there is an inactive line at the address.
