Hi i recently psoted something about a phone line. Anyway... I have a phone line fitted into my house like most people. I am looking at getting the internet, when i go onto some websites it asks for the phone number for that house but i dont have one because i havent sorted any connection or anything out so what do i do? Do i ring for eg, bt up and ask for line rental and they will give me a number and connect me and then look for an internet provider that is compatible with bt ie) plusnet? Thanks
BTW) im on a friends internet

When you agree a contract with BT they should be able to give you a phone number then, but frankly I'd wait until I got the line fitted before looking at adding ADSL to it, one step at a time ;-)0

Do you have virgin cable in your area?0

I think you can look up the prices now, in fact there is bound to be an MSE article - they want your number so they can work out how fast your connection will be, it's just because most people already know their number. But if you have a line fitted with rental, BT can give you the number, just use a £3 cheapie phone ;-)0

yes i do have virgin broadband in my area but it seems a bit more expensive than other sites i have seen?0

You cant order broadband regardless if you had the telephone number, As there is no data available i.e line distance to calculate speeds, or for ISP's to check for tags on the line.0

Has the line actually been installed and connected.
if so just dial 17070 and it will tell you the number on the line.0
