Mine is also thick and wavy and can look aging left to itself.

It is currently cut in quite a severe asymmetric bob. A bit like this one but I also have quite a dramatic colouring job as well.

I can "straighten" the longer side ( chin length) by coating it in V05 styling gel ( the strongest one), pulling it firmly into place and and letting it dry naturally. Very occasionally I may need to use the straightners just to smooth it over but generally it will dry in the time it takes me to get to work and I just brush the product out.
  • Hi,

I have very thick, wavy/curly (depending on how it feels) strawberry blonde hair. I find it unmanageable in it's natural state, but too damaging to straighten it constantly (I have GHDs)

My compromise is to wear it mostly up. I pull it back into a ponytail when it's wet. My hair will dry straightish if under tension. I've had a side fringe and feathers put in at the front. So all I do is arrange the back in a bun / clip / french twist with clip and then pull the fringe and feathers down and straighten them. This softens the look and gives the benefits of straight hair with less hassle.

  • How about enhancing the curls with product rather than heat. That way your hair will be much more tame if you dislike the 'fly away' look. Have you ever scrunched your hair? Probably, we all have ;).

I can personally say i've never tried it. But I have used other mousse before and it does add texture, bounce and style to the hair.
Or there's one from boots I heard is good too. And it's dirt cheap. You can read reviews on it too.

Another thing I'd like to add is, if you want to look younger with the curly hair - then why not use make up that enhances your complexion? In the second picture the woman is wearing more make-up with the straight hair. If you used a face brightening creme blush, or lipstick then it would make a big difference in your appearence. You get away with more colour on your face with the 'curly-ier' hair as it is sofer on the face - where as the straight hair already draws attention.

I'm young but my hair is very wavy/curly. I do both straightening and leaving my hair natural. I can personally say for us 'young ins' that straight hair is SO over rated. It's fashionable to have movement in your hair. I honestly think that going with the natural look is your best bet. You just have to think of ways to make it work for you personally. There are other ways to enhance your looks and look younger without straightening your hair until it falls out .
    Toto, I
    Don't think we're in
    Kansas anymore...

    I like your natural look
The trouble with artificial straight hair apart from the damage, it is beginning to get very boring...everyone looks the same now
