How to have modern and young looking hair withour straighteners?

Options
I have been using GHDs daily for about 5 years now. I always kept my hair very short as the GHDs damaged it. I have been trying to grow it out, but cannot style my hair in a fashionable way without GHDS

Naturally my hair is like this

but a bit shorter, which adds about 10 years to me and looks very old fashioned.

Apart from wearing it up everyday any tips? My hair is also very greasy and needs washing daily.

    Your hair is naturally lovely.

I think hair looks better with some softness and natural movement in it, especially round the face. Personally I think very straighted hair is less than flattering unless you're very young or have a very distinctive look. It would be good to see a pic of you with your straightened style though to compare!

I'm older than you but my hair is long now after being in a short style for 30 years! I love it, but it is naturally straight, I style it with soft waves/curls and volume and have layers cut in the ends. I wish it was like yours!

I would just add a little product to keep frizz away and keep the top smooth and glossy and pump it up a bit for special occasions!

What about investing in a Brazillian Keratin treatment if you like the straight look.

The straightening is just a by product of the keratin infusion and it makes a massive difference to the condition of my hair. Although it is expensive you wouldn't need to straighten your hair initially and then when it starts to wear off it takes far less effort to straighten it and the condition of your hair is really improved so the straighteners don't make it look unhealthy.

depending on where you go the prices tend to range from £125-£250 but it lasts for months. I last had it done in August and will probably get another one in Jan or Feb.

looks about 15 years younger, a bit like me. I feel I look about 45 with natural hair.

Straight hair can look a bit OTT on older ladies, but I also want to look my age and would like to do this with a softer look.

Nice pic! You definitely look happier with your gently-straightened hair style! Looks lovely here too.

I have GHDs but don't use them often due to the damage. My hair is like yours naturally but with more curly wavy bits.

I don't do young or modern though! I always wanted really curly hair.

My hair has naturally wavy bits but it's not uniform so I do try and straighten it. I've got GHD's but I confess I only use them a couple of times a year :o
My hair is cut in a longish bob - I've got a brush with a metal barrel and basically to get my hair as straight as poss I roughly blow dry it (I wash mine everyday without fail, as a natural blonde I feel it looks grubby otherwise :o) and then using a butterfly clip I dry the hair over the brush in sections. This works pretty well if I take the time. I use a heat protection spray first too and use coconut oil on my hair at least once a month. So far this is working for me :D

I know EXACTLY what you mean & I have that same wavy bouffant hair:mad::mad::mad:
    I also GHD it.
I don't think their is a better way & I agree that wavy bouffant hair is ageing:(

Personally I think the main problem with the wavy hair is the cut/style. Its not a youthful or flattering style. However, whether a really good hairstylist would be more MSE than straighteners and concealing damage I don't know.

I know its the same woman and cut. Personally I think the straight hair looks ''ok'' nothing more, but that the natural hair would look better with a more appropriate style/cut designed to flatter that hair and face.:)

The OP is saying her GHDs give her hair damage///that must make a difference too!
