Hold tight to your money. Hate to say I told you so but 3 TF branches already shut down this month without any warning. Customers complaining that DD still being taken.
I suspect more to follow and rumours are strong one in Wales is next, which is the one that most people in England join to get a membership to use at their local gym to reduce the cost.

Thanks for that info. I'm SO glad now that I didn't do a 1 year upfront payment with them in January. I would have done if their prices weren't so silly so I'm very grateful.

Hmm next question then, will the gym be bought by another company? Would be a shame if not, I'll have to keep my eyes peeled.

Read this week in the FT of a possible buy out from another gym chain. No mention of who this potential buyer is but it did say that the end for TF could be less than 3 months away.
  • I was on the off peak package that cost me £310 a year. I've been a member since the club opened in Crewe, which is a few years now. My renewal notice came and lo and behold the off peak membership no longer exists and they want me to pay £475, which is over 50% more. I emailed and said I'm not prepared to pay that much and they phoned while I was away and left a message to apologise but saying that's what the price now is. Looks like I'll look for another gym.
  • Hi Crimsonspirit,
I also used to be a member at TF in Crewe but am not prepared to pay that amount to rejoin.
Where did you end up joining?
There isn't a lot of choice regarding gyms in Crewe. There's a Bannatyne's but they can be pretty pricey.

I'm lucky in the respect that I work at Stoke, so I've joined Pure Gym which is opening next month. They only charge £9.99 a month for the first year, and then it's £16.99 a month for life after that. The gym is (or will be) open 24/7 for 365 days a year. The prices are cheaper because they don't have swimming pools, sauna's and such like. There's also no notice required to cancel the account.

The rate of the branches closing has increased lately but so have the deals on the branches trying to survive.
There are now deals to be had again at TF but the better deals are gained by visiting in person.
Ive not managed to get a good a deal as deals ive had in the past from TF but im happy with the deals ive managed to get for myself and other family members.
If you are an old member of TF you should be able to get a full membership now for £35 with no joing fee and no contract. Just make sure you protect yourself by paying monthly and not a lump sum.

Well it's finally happen my total fitness has now closed down. Same old story as all the previous closures, absolute lies and promises to refund money which will never happen. Just hope customers listened to my advice 12 months ago and didn't pay upfront.
