Ooooh interesting. Would you mind sharing what you said on the phone? I'm really bad at scripting stuff like this

Also, did you join for an annual membership, or a pay monthly one?0 -
I am also keeping an eye out for a voucher code - I'll post if I come across a code
I paid £295 for a year at Wilmslow last year - dont fancy paying £495 this time around0 -
i also paid 295 last year. this year its 495 when i spoke to manager he said would have been 395 if i had joined before oct10 but new management so thats the fee now.
i have been at wilmslow total fitness for 9 years and staff on phone said there will be no deals in january 2011.
so its a case of waiting and watching for any deals but they are holding tight at moment.
its a busy time so they seem not to care about deals, yet you would think they would want to sign you up before you start looking elsewhere.
lets hope patience pays off!0 -
I just spouted on about leaving and they caved in:D:DKeep ringing head office and trying, it is worth it of you can get it for £35 monthly:DOoooh interesting. Would you mind sharing what you said on the phone? I'm really bad at scripting stuff like this

wilmslow is the head office for total fitness. so i have tried weekly and even spoke to manager but no joy.
they say because i left last august ( after 9 years!!) so am now regarded as new member and its 495, i must admit i am shocked. i like total and have many friends there and its very convenient for me,but i will join local target fitness in hazel grove and pay per class and wait til total come to their senses, which i think they will eventually.
when they offered you 35 month , which i agree is reasonable, were you still a member or had your membership expired0 -
My membership expired in Sept and I have been looking into starting to go again as using the council pools & gym idea was sadly a non starter!! phoned up the head office and they did not want to talk to me as they only deal with renwals. My local one would not budge on the price at all and they were adamant that there were going to be no promotions in the near future and that if I joined a cheaper gym, I would have to go to that one to collect my card and do the induction....sadly Wrexham is a bit too far for me!!
Anyone got any ideas to get the price beaten down?0 -
well i have to say i rejoined at £495
there was an offer, if you can call it that, whereby you got a free gym bag, bottle, towel, padlock, swim hat and 2 weeks membership for a any friend or family to use plus 5 free day passes again for other people.
i didnt pay rejoin fee of £25 or credit card fee of 2.5%!
it wasnt much but better than nothing.
they find out what the offer for the month will be on the 1st of each month so thats when to ask.
when i asked what the renewal fee is for existing members they said £475 so it really is staying at higher fees but with the odd incentive freebies but no discount!
its still cheaper than others in my area, so for me i just paid it. now i can get on with it instead of constantly looking for deal that they dont have.0 -
I joined TF in Chester in July '09 with a very good deal for 18 months for over 55s @ £330 (less than £18.50 pm). Too good to pass up. Renewal at end of November '10 was offered at a 'discounted for renewal' price of £385 for 12 months (£31.25pm) instead of the usual £420. :(Too big a price hike for me and the attitude of the retention staff helped me decide to drop the membership. I used the club mainly for swimming and the hydropool/spa facilities, and in 6 months time I get use of the pool in my local leisure centre for free and everything else for £20pm. Those people getting £35pm deals are just being switched into the cheapest standard payment plan available, the over 55s have no lower plan to be switched to.
Total Fitness is heading for dangerous territory. Most renewals and new memberships come in the first two months of every year with a further surge after Easter. If the levels of renewals continues to fall and new memberships fail to pick up, Barclays (the owners) will probably pull the plug; there is no way the loss of membership and income can be sustained.
Look for some very good deals to come up in the fairly near future. If they don't, (even if they do..) check your monthly direct debit is not being paid to some finance house who can still draw payment even if TF closes!!:eek:0 -
Its not looking good for TF so DONT pay any large sums of money upfront.
I got my membership in DEC09, it cost me £330 for 15 months, which was a good deal and not being a gym addict was the right price for me to pay as I go on average once every 2 weeks. My local gym is Warrington and will NOT be paying £495 when my membership ends in March for the following reasons.
1) TF are still in financial trouble and the stance taken at the moment is typical Barclays business tatics. So you could loose the lot if you pay upfront.
2) Speaking with the staff at my TF I was told that since the price hike 10,000 members had not renewed, staff rumours I know but sometimes no smoke without fire.
3) The last 6 months has saw a large staff turnaround in my TF.
4) David lloyd members who havent renewed have been contacted a few months later and offered to rejoin at £50 per month. That is a fact as I know one.
Hold tight and use council gyms in the short term0 -
Got my renewal letter yesterday, paid £245 in 2009, £265 in 2010, they now want £350 for 2011, a 32% increase (over 55 membership).
Noticed the club has gone a bit downhill over the last couple of years, equipment out of service for longer, place looking a bit more untidy so how they can justify a 32% increase I don't know. In the letter they are promising a total rebrand that befits a 21st century gym, whatever that means.
May stay with them for a few more months to see if there is any improvement but will not pay the £350 upfront, will go on the £29.50pm as I fear for the solvency of this company.0
