Netgear DG834GT with Tiscali 2Mbps

Hi,

I am planning to buy Netgear DG834GT wireless router.

As far as I understand this has a in-built ADSL modem, hence no need of separate modem.

I have Tiscali (2Mbps) broadband connection.

The cheapest deal I have found is:
http://www.dsldepot.co.uk/product_details.asp?idProduct=653

(£34 delivered)

Please let me know if anything cheaper than this can be found.

Please help me find the following info:

1. Whether this router is compatible with Tiscali Broadband.
2. As this router has inbuilt modem, do I have to buy any other stuff apart from this to set up wireless internet connection.

Regards,
Addictive_saver

I doubt if you will find it any cheaper than that. Yes it is compatible with Tiscali and if you want to connect to a computer using wireless it will need a 802.11/g wireless adaptor unless already built in. If it's a desktop something like this or if it's a notebook something like this. Avoid USB dongles if possible.

  • Thanks espresso,

I have got new Dell Inspiron 6400 notebook which has following:

    Intel® Pro/Wireless 3945 (802.11a/b/g)

So I guess, without any wireless adapter, I would be able to connect to wireless internet using this router.

    Am I correct here?

Yes, that should work just fine. Remember to set up WPA-PSK encryption with a good long random key to secure your network connection.
