Thanks for posting Toni I'm having the same problem pages are hanging with the message waiting for forums.moneysavingexpert.com
I am also seeing problems with other sites as well
for instance I cannot connect to my internet providers address
http://www.bethere.co.uk/
Edit: managed to get into the Be broadband forum and there are loads of people on there reporting network problems ie: slow and laggy connections and some sites not loading at all so it appears that the problem isn't with MSE this time!!0 -

:rotfl:) and if it helps us that do use it, that's what matters, although it would be nice to see people give it a chance.
What I don't understand is that people are taking about missing competitions now, but if everything is on the main board with it's end date and not mentioned anywhere that it's a regular entry or regular draw, then how many people will be missing them then, more than there is now I would have thought? Surely the whole thing is about making sure less people miss them, not making sure more people do? *confused look*

i think the thing is th epeople complaining about mnissing comps because they are in regualrs are those who enter by newly posted on main only and dont so much as look at regs or entertain the idea of reg threads. their argument is its more hassle to go and check a second board for new comps as well as main.
once upon a time, ive seen by some searches, there was a single thread with links to all threads that ended each day...clearly before there were 200odd comps ending a day it was possible to maintain threads like that lol
i dunno, seems that people wont give anything a trial, and without a trial the majority who dont ever go near regs want rid of it completely. given that they wont allow any more stickies on main we wont get to keep the reg sticky threads if everything moves. i also cannot possibly see how it can work having everything posted on main, EXCEPT for those people who manage to keep up daily with comps as they are posted.
i am hoinestly having trouble seeing why it is such a bad thing to finish on main and then move to regs and go through posts on there by newly posted too. i get that its a whole nuther mouse click to open a whole nother section of the forum...but then maybe all i won should be mixed in on main too? its maybe 20 new posts a day in regs, as opposed to 20 more new posts mixed in with the 200 others on main.
and as has been said before there are thread subscriptions, a user cp and emails showing new posts in the thread, a thanks button to confirm you ahve looked at new posts and thus entered or not ( the entered button itself is new, use the thanks on the most recent post in a thread in the way you used to use it before the entered buttons existance but i may be missing something obvious as to why thats not possible).
to those that argue they cant do that because they have to trawl through pages and pages to find out where they were i honestly want to know how you find your place in this thread? in the inn? in other threads on other areas of mse? thats a genuine question.0 -
I don't know that folk are asking that we lose the regs thread entirely. That's certainly not my favoured option, (Not that we're being given any options to consider given that no admin/BGs have come in to comment.) Personally, as I've previously stated, I can't see why all comps can't be left where they are on the main boards and a link posted in regs- as I've always done. If we just had 3 threads in there, daily, weekly & monthly (Maybe a sub-one for "Enter as often as you like" within daillies.) Then that'd suit the end-date enterers too. A real win / win instead of the lose / lose we have now
It worked brilliantly for the advents and it could work here.
As I understand it, most folk simply want to stop losing comps from the main board where the majority can enter. Sorry to keep using one of my own posts as an example, but a comp for a PS3 getting less than 40 likes in 3 weeks certainly suggests, no, confirms, very few are accessing it now it's hidden. (Still can't seem to win it tho'!)
I don't think it's fair to say we haven't tried it - we have as it's been forced upon us since before Christmas - unless I'm imagining all the moved comps and an email telling me all the comps I'd just spent an evening (when I could have been entering comps for myself!) had been removed back in November!
The trouble with having to work 2 boards, for me at least, is that I work too, so simply don't have the time to do it properly/ efficiently. To be honest, I rather resent having to.... As it is, I often end up going back to where I last left off and simply pop comps I'm interested in into 1 of 3 folders on my favourites (Arranged by end dates , 1st-10th, 11th-21st & 22nd -end covering all months) so I can enter them when I have more time. I suppose this also answers the question about how I know where I am - I look at time posted and it's usually bedtime when I finish as I tend to comp infront of the TV during the evening! When I'm way behind, I jot date / end time down in my notebook (cheap spiral bound job used for all internet notes, inc ebay - kept with lappy) so I know where to begin again when I come back.
 Can I just add that it's refreshing that we can all be sharing our differing opinions without any unpleasant sniping, (Unless there has been & I've completely missed it :rotfl: - you've got to be very unsubtle / "inyourface" to have a pop at me 'cos I'm a glass-half-full kinda gal :rotfl:!)

you're not imagining it, i've had to search through your profile & a few others to find some of the comps that were posted on main then moved

I think GB has it covered. As I understand it, most folk simply want to stop losing comps from the main board where the majority can enter.
and yep - something along the lines of Toni's advent but daily/weekly/monthly click to thread would be a good idea for those who like to use reg's
And yep Korky I find my last green tick too lol - also the line at the top of the screen 'you last visited at yesterday at x.xxpm' helps as well

GBX
as far as i can tell things were going along quite swimmingly 6 months ago, for all bar a few ppl who wanted a change, i think ive seen more ppl opposed and complaining since things started to change, but without a poll we'll never know
i would hardly every go into the regulars before a few months ago, because i expect the majority of competitions to be on the 'main' board and so thats where i am gonna get most comps to enter
the regulars i think is a good idea, it has its place but needs to be more managable before it will fully work well, imho what is needed to help make this happen is two things, one an expiry button and two a GO section, because as it stands you can search on the main for all current comps without getting GO comps by not ticking the 'child forums' however, when searching the regulars you are gonna get everything alive or dead
my understanding of the regulars board is it is there to help ppl to find those competitions that are or may be on the main board but can be actioned more than once before the end date so for e.g
on 01/01 GBX posts a scifi daly comp ending 31/01
this is pm'd to gilla who updates the daily list linking to GBX OP on the main board
i see absolutely no reason why GBX OP then needs moving to within that regulars board, so gillas pm only directs you to a post further down the list in the regulars forum and anybody who comps by new topic view on the main board only misses out
this is obviosuly a proven case in point for quite a few other comps that have also been mentioned here where the thanks for the current comps has dropped from the hundreds to the dozens
i myself recently commented on a scifi comp now in regulars, i had always seen/found GBX OP on the main board using my own presaved searches, thanked her and been entering daily since 11-01-2010 right up until 27-11-2010 when i no longer found it and thought that scifi had discontinued it, but it was moved to regs and so i missed out on nearly 2 months of comping
if the OP is happy to post each new comp as a new post each month that is their effort and it should be left as is
gilla will get a pm to link it to and the majority of ppl will see it either via looking at her 'daily posts' stickied in the regulars, or by new topic view on the main board
there is absolutely no sense whatsover is GBX posting to main
E: 31/01 sci-fi xbox 360 comp, gilla setting up a link to it and then it getting moved to the regulars and being turned into E: DAILY until 31/01 sci-fi xbox 360 comp
at the end of the month, someone is going to have to repost it anyway and gilla is going to have do a new link again
so lets have them posted to the main board, linked in gillas list and left well alone from there on in.
thank you...

Apparently everything has a happy ending and if you havent arrived at the happiness, it hasnt ended yet :think:0 -
I also agree with bg and said right at the start that there wasn't anything wrong with the way the boards worked then now, I find myself missing comps as I use Gillas list then go to the main board so if it is only posted in the regs section and Gilla doesn't get a link OR if it isn't a daily comp then I miss it.
It did appear at the beginning of the discussions that there were only a very few people that wantd the format changed to the way they wanted it to work.
I have always been of the opinion that 'if it aint broke don't fix it'If at first you don't succeed try, try, try again.

Right, I've done all the links on the new daily thread in the second post here I've checked them all and they all link to the right comps!
Is this setup ok with everyone?
What I really wanted to do was to have the direct links to the webpages on the right hand side, so that it's one less click as on some of the threads once you've already thanked there's no more posts, so it just saves a little bit of time. And if you have Snaplinks you can open them all up very easily (which is the reason I wanted to keep them well away from the other links as some of the others are short and some long and Snaplinks will open the long ones of those too as they'd be in the drag box) and just work through them as you like. As the tab button doesn't work on posts the only way I can think to do it is to have everything spaced out and on the line below the comp have the direct link right justified? I'll probably copy and couple of the ones from the list over to the 3rd post so I can see what it would look like if I did it as I don't want to make it look more complicated than it needs to.
There's some (Pogo, Watches Shop, Dorset Cereals, Gu Puds, Funtrivia (that's the MSE Compers Quiz, but I need to ask Gilla if there's a prize or if it's just for fun), Gamepage, Phase9 and Elliot and Buttons) where I've left them as there wasn't a current link and I wanted to check what to do, I don't want to link to comps in Game Over without requesting them to be bought back live somewhere. I also need to ask for one of the What's on TV comps to be bought back from Game Over too as that's still live.
Hope the thread is ok for everyone!0 -
