Sony VAT Back...

My parents bought a Sony Bravia KDL32BX300 32 inch Widescreen LCD TV from Tesco. The lady handed them a claim form in order to get the vat back on this product. They completed the forms etc and sent it off. Yesterday a letter and all sent forms were returned and told that this product was not part of the promotion. Fair enough, not arguing with Sony however, they have said to re-submit with correct information and they will reconsider the application... why would the letter say that when they've already said no to that product.

My query is... surely this is Tesco giving out wrong information. Do i persue it. The tv cost £300...

The way your relate this story it seems that your parents made their choice and only when the purchase was completed did the assistant mention the VAT back. A mistake was made and they were disappointed.

If, however, the sale was made on the basis that it was to their advantage to purchase that model because it qualified for the VAT back, then they were misled and they would have a claim against Tesco.

Looking at the claim form for this promotion, it appears that the model you mention is not included in the promotion.

However, if you were informed that it was, I think you clearly have a claim against Tesco. I suggest you try Sony one more time as they have asked, and if they don't send you the claimed amount, take the complaint to Tesco.

The amount you are claiming is almost £45, so it is probably worth a bit of your time to follow it through.
