haha GG....yes that's very true......A summer of teaching sailing, and then a winter as a beach bum on a far flung beach :j :j

All play and no work makes westie a very happy gal :rotfl:

    Cheers all

In fairness to all participants in an unusually good debate, we are all subject to anchoring (no pun intended Westie) and confirmation bias re. our own opinions.

MFW tends to attract good eggs, and I'm sure that you are all lovely landlords who treat your tenants with respect and courtesy.

My experiences are by no means unique, and are probably as old as houses (so to speak). I'm currently re-reading 'The Road to Wigan Pier' by Orwell, and he wasn't a big fan of amateur landlords, either. Something along the lines of:

'the worst sort of landlord isn't a fat capitalist living out of sight and odor of the slums, but a poor widow who has put her capital into buying three slum properties, one to live in and two for her pension, and has no money to make the necessary repairs' ;)

Also, competely agree with GG concentrating too much in any one asset (whether that's a single AIM share, or sticking to bricks as it's all you know).

I concur Edinburgher......it was a good debate, and very enjoyable too....perhaps I should lurk less and post more ;)

I do agree with many of your observations re landlords....sadly, this is the harsh reality for many. It just makes me even more determined to be a 'good' landlord. I take my responsibilities seriously, and believe that if you want good tenants, you must offer good accommodation (and ensure that all maintenance and repairs are seen to quickly).

And of course I fully agree with not concentrating too much in one asset class.....property is an important investment for me, but just one of several areas of interest.

    diversify, diversify, diversify :rotfl:

Haven't done credit card rec yet and bill goes out in a day or two .
Done both cards, even used pivot table to analyse :T. So £5 Halifax rewards to savings, now at £278, will be retired in no time :rotfl:.

Looks flipping freezing out there , glad I'm wfh but need to go out at lunchtime :(.

So, meal planning went well, but I've read somewhere you're actually supposed to follow it and cook what's on there . Best get on it then :o. ETA - that's lucky, today's lunch, dinner and tomorrow's lunch are all out of freezer, reckon I can follow that ;)

    Happy Friday eve :T.

So annoying when that work thing gets in the way :rotfl:.

Nothing to report money wise, except that when doing the ccard reccie the other day I realised I had a rebate from a car insurance OP (long story). With my new 'non-Tilly Tidy' attitude I'd left it in current account (3% gross interest) and was going to move over at end of month but have decided that's for dribs & drabs so moving £160 over to ISA savings at 2.5% :D.

Off to make a mahoosive chilli in :smileyheaslow-cooker-that-goes-on-hob:smileyhea
