I suppose, trying to be positive, the boy must have felt some great friendship from his peers and that his friends learned compassion?
We all just got along with out favorite game.
Kiss or torment. With torment being a kiss (the lasses hated it).0 -
In the 70s I went to school with quite a few malnourished kids.
We even clubbed together to get one lad some new y fronts, as he only had 1 pair. He also had to be 'trained' in using a urinal, as he didnt know what it was.
That does provide a sense of perspective, but every generation has its challenges, in those days it was probably cost with little support, now we have the same scene played out due to things like heroin.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
:oI was born in the late fifties, bought up three children alone after the breakdown of my first marriage, lived within my means and worked hard seven days a week as a nurse. We had holidays, I ran a car and had my own house, we lived very much on a budget without debt credit cards or going overdrawn at the bank. Fast forward fifteen years, I have remarried, have a mortgage still working as a nurse ( albeit not seven days a week )my husband has been unemployed for almost two years, I still live by the same principles of living within our means no debt ( other than mortgage )credit cards etc and it works well for us:o We have three holidays a year abroad albeit modest and other than the unemployment life is good:j I think the principle of all this is about living within your means in good times and bad, makes for a lot less hassle in the long run:Tenjoy every day, you dont know how long youve got!:o0

That and a failure to understand the impact of compound interest on savings.
Take a job a Maccas aged 16 paying £5 net an hour for 15 hours a week and save half the money for 5 years and then just stick it in an ISA making 7% pa and they'd have £300,000 at 65 if they never saved another penny.
I wish I could get 7% on my ISA:(Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you.0 -

The bizarre thing is as we are told we will be living longer there seems to be more adverts on TV pointing out what we are dying from e.g. mutiple cancer warnings, watch out for the signs of a stroke, heart attacks 'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. More shock tactics I think, if they actually believed it (I do to a certain extent) they would not be planning changes to retirement ages stretching decades ahead.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. Not if they were on earning £10k pa.0 -

I assume you mean cash, as the equity ISA's are way above 7% this year.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is.
