BEWARE using Simply-fone

First of all, let me say what an excellent service Simply-fone is and thanks to whoever recommended it on this site. I emailed S-F a couple of times with queries and got swift, efficient and cheerful replies.

However, I have just had an awful experience that I thought I would warn everyone about so they don't get stung like I did. Not S-F's fault at all.

I have been using my Orange xnet mins to ring abroad and sometimes, it doesn't get through the first time, so I redial the S-F access no.
But a few times, I stayed on hold even though it said it couldn't connect me and a few seconds later, I got a message asking me to redial my number, which I did thinking it was from S-F as I was still on the phone after ringing S-F access no.
I have just received a bill from Orange where I have been charged for my phone calls to Kenya and incurred a massive 35 pounds charge!!!
Rang Orange and they say I dialled Kenya directly.
Seems that the message asking to redial was from Orange and not Simply-Fone and the calls went directly through Orange!!!

So beware.........................

    good post mate.

this applies to all follow-on calls etc using mobile services where the second call will switch back to the mobile co away from the cheapie provider.

with simply-fone's 07744974333 however i've always found the connection to be good & first time even to Indian mobiles which are notorious.

    btw. I had a number i dialed in usa & couldn't connect S-F emailed me to use 07744 974 363 and it got thru str8 away! :D

I've just used S-F for the first time. Only did a 5 minute call abroad, and will wait to see if my xnet minutes are used. I'm on orange.

Should I not be scared and keep using it, or should I wait till my next bill and see if they are charged? I've so far not read anyone with a normal orange tariff complain on here.

This message would probably have been from the foreign network; perhaps it was busy for a few minutes.

If you entered the number and pressed send while waiting like that, it puts that first call on hold and makes a second call direct.

    Hi Genie,

I've had no problems using Simply-Fone using the Orange xnet mins generally,
only when I've re-dialled the number.
Apart from that I've made various other calls to France, Colombia and Kenya which were not counted as additional minutes.

    :)

    PS
    I meant re-dialling when I thought I was still connected to S-F

barring international call from your phone should be a solution to avoid that
Life should not be taken seriously, as no one would get out alive

int'l call barring might not be so useful. S-F can't do the most expensive countries within their revenue from the number; most of these countries are European mobiles, which you can call for 20p or 16.7p per minute from Orange
