So sorry to hear that Spiral.

A low spend day for me. I went to M and S to buy the Pie d'angloys cheese I love and yet again they didn't have it, so I treated myself to the chocolate florentines instead. I bought some face wipes from Boots, 3 for a pound and that was it.
May make shepherds pie with the left over bolognese if I have enough potatoes.

  • Hello Everyone,
I'm another one in the half way through the year camp, so am feeling pretty good this evening although where I work we only get 2 days off next week. We spend 2 days interviewing and a day in meetings while the students are working hard relaxing or catching up with all the things they should have done.
I haven't posted much but do read daily and hope that things will look up soon for all of you who are going through tough times at the moment. We do all seem to be making tremendous progress with the frugal challenge at least.
Still, Friday night's all right, all right,eh? Maybe not!

    Best wishes

That's a brilliant idea :j:jand you can make cages by draping the nets over canes (pop old soft drink bottles over the ends of the canes for safety and to stop them tearing the nets). I only have one query: would net curtains allow enough light to the fruit?

Mnnn! redglass I have to admit I hadnt thought of the light it was more to do with keeping the birds away, maybe I shall have to think again now.:o

    I
Cheryl, am about to PM you.

Sorry, 23rdspiral that you are feeling the pressure at the moment as well as grieving, give yourself the kind of care you would give somebody else and just remember you are just one human being, all be it a fantastic one.XX

Erme you seem to be pulling yourself up by your boot straps, well done but dont overdo it. I always seem to be telling you to look after you, are you listening? XX E

:( Sorry to hear that, ((((23rdspiral)))). Not a nice combination at all and I get quite  hearing about people having to 'prove their value' when they have been working somewhere for years. Bereavement is bad enough without having to go through that insulting stuff at the same time.

Some of us are hitting really rough patches lately, so dodgy hugs are called for all round....:grouphug:
I went to M and S to buy the Pie d'angloys cheese I love and yet again they didn't have it,

I know the one - thick & creamy & indulgent, yum, yum. Our branch of Mr S has it. Maybe yours too?
I cant remember at the moment what it was I wnated to reply to you about.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Anything to do with lace curtains and fruit bushes?

    Evening all

Wow, it's lovely to read so many messages from lovely people supporting each other. :)

Cheryl, sorry to hear about the cutbacks. Well on the positive side it’ll leave you with more “you time”. And it sounds like you will still be able to make ends meet – just hope there is something in the kitty for the occasional treat. How are things going with your chap these days, is he still on the scene?

Jayne, hope the meeting went ok today and you get an outcome that suits you. Have my fingers crossed for you. I like your plan of running off to live in a field with your chickens!

(((((Barros))))), sorry to hear things aren’t going well. But you will somehow find a way to adapt and cope … and we are here for you if you want a moan or rant.

EFC, what a shame that they are cutting buses. It’s good that you were on it even if nobody else was so they will see it is getting some use. I’ll have my fingers Hope it turns out ok. I love the sound of your garden and the homemade fruit cages, you’re amazing! :T

Apple_mint, thank you for reminding me about taking meter readings. I’ve slipped off that wagon too! I usually take weekly readings and enter them on iMeasure and then submit them to my supplier but I’ve been getting a bit lax.

(((((23rdSpiral))))) I’m so sorry to hear all you’re going through. Sounds like your HR dept is playing silly beggars and if jobs weren’t in such short supply I’d be saying stuff them anyway.

Erme, thanks for the Ebay advice – you can be my Ebay guru if I ever try it! Most of the stuff is big but I do have a shower radio I was going to freecycle but saw it on Ebay for 99p. Not sure it’s worth the hassle though. Maybe I’ve just heard too many stories of people having bad experiences and it’s put me off. Hope you’re doing ok hon … it’s just an outsider’s perspective but I don’t think your Doc or his wife will read your posts here, am sure you’ve nothing to worry about – could it be paranoia? You are doing great though - am well-impressed with your long walk! If you keep that up you’ll be fit as a fiddle but like EFC says, don’t overdo it. xxx

Lesley, I made the soup and have just had it for supper – it was delicious! It’s up there as one of the nicest soups, probably THE nicest soup I’ve ever made. I deviated slightly from the recipe as I didn’t have sprigs of herbs so I used some ordinary dried mixed herbs. And I didn’t have smoked paprika (which I’ve been meaning to buy) so just used ordinary. I added a parmesan rind while cooking and it all ended up lovely. Oh, and I didn’t mix all the cheese in at once, just added a bit to the 2 hefty portions I’ve just scoffed! I will freeze some of the leftovers and have some for lunches at the weekend. Yum!

Ruby, enjoy your treat! We all need one once in a while!

Congratulations to all the teachers and I hope you are all enjoying the weekend and half term!
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!
