Hope your BF doesn't go too mad with the money in your absence!

I did google 'Beyond Chocolate' and it looks interesting. There have been other similar approaches in the past - in the 60s or 70s there was a book called 'The Anti-Diet' by Lynn somebody (Donovan?) and then there were various books by Susie Orbach - all of these were basically the same as the 'Beyond Chocolate' way of eating and some people found them very liberating.

The last time I was really, really serious about frugalising some weight came off because I had cut back on chocs and booze. I was amazed - I had been on loads of diets and never done well. It seemed to show that deep down, I was more motivated by saving money than by losing weight. That was quite a strange discovery at the time (I am seriously overweight, so dieting isn't just a vanity project for me) and I remember I found it embarrassing! :o I would never have said that about myself, but actions speak louder than words....

You're not the only one to have a connection between money and diet.....I DO like a glass of wine (or two) and unfortunately I like brandy too. Its easy to persuade oneself that its no big deal to have a couple of drinks of an evening and thats okay as long as there are a couple of booze-free nights a week - ahem:o. So - must say that several days of not so much as one glass of anything alcoholic and I realised that I feel better already and do I detect just a tiny bit of an easier fit of clothing already? (or is that wishful thinking?.....). So - triple whammy Win:D - less calories, about a tenner a week more in my pocket and I feel better...:D

Now if I could just walk more - I have about an hour walking each day anyway (not counting general "walking around" - just the walking to and from places type walking).....
  • Your doing so well minnie, keep going because although you think your not benefiting financially YOU ARE your minimising your debt by living frugally, even if you havent got much spare cash to show for it at the moment, your hard work will be rewarded.

    Evening everyone :)

    Another day done :)

I was put on cover today in my only free lesson, so I am very tired this evening. I doubt I'll do much other than veg out on the sofa and the have an early night. I had two meetings and then a rehearsal after school as well so its been a long day!

Another NSD today too, which is good OH has treated me to a smoothie maker as well, which is a nice surprise I made a lot of smoothies when I lived at home but we don't have a food processor here. This is a lot smaller which helps as we don't have a lot of space - it's quite sad that I'm looking forward to it arriving! :) It'll also help me get my 5 portions of fruit and veg a day, which is good :)

    Evening all!

Another NSD here in Fresian Towers :A

Lunch was my 15p (ish) pasta concoction which was lovely. Dinner was home-made minestrone that I made a couple of weeks ago, so I got yummy dinner and made more room in the freezer :D

I found a stamp in my purse so didn't have to ask for one!

I have been to the pictures tonight to see The King's Speech which was really enjoyable. I was in the queue for icecream when I thought "I don't need this and it will ruin my NSD" and I walked away - unheard of!! I will probably get an icecream as a treat once or twice a month but I visualised the Spreadsheet Of Wonder and know that I've had one recently already :rotfl::rotfl: I'm meant to be going to the movies again tomorrow, and I don't know if I can exercise that much willpower twice in two days ;)

My 11 year old daughter is making crumble at school tomorrow and the teachers have instructed them to take and use a TIN of filling!!!!!!!!!! How is that teaching the next generation to cook and look after themselves. There is butter, flour, oats and sugar in her receipe along with a tine of peaches (her choice of fruit)!!!!

We had to stew our own fruit in my day!

Diddly- it was the same when mine did cookery at school, and the elder 2 (now 27 and 21) did Home Economics to GCSE. Don't think they ever stewed fruit from scratch

For my food tech gcse, I had to make carrot cakes for 24 weeks in a row, including one week using plain flour to prove it didn't rise... :rolls eyes:

In the nicest possible way, each NSD means I don't have to go home and fill in your spreadsheet, so visualising it is quite the motivational tool ;)
