No Buying Toiletries in Jan 2011 !!!!

Replying now to last months thread before I forget...
Joanna Yeates lived reasonably close to me (and many others on here I suspect).
Her story has been on our local news for a while. Her family are in the prayers of my family and I. DH and his family all said that they thought something suspicious about the landlord. I watched the news where he was shown doing the weird talk back to the camera (sky) and thought it was a bit iffy. I also noticed DH doing the old (whhhhhhhs, deep breath in) which means I can't say anything right now as children are still awake.
I hope to God that the perpetrator of this awful crime is found and I hope that everyone involved manages to find peace after this awful event. May God Bless Joannas soul, she was taken too soon.
I have had a lot of reflection this Christmas and new year. I buried my step mother in February, found out that my father has incurable prostate cancer in November and told my half sister that we had to allow him to not continue with treatment and die sooner so that he could have some sort of life left.
I then saw my cousin's (who is like my brother) god father, a dear family friend, admitted to hospital very unwell. I was supposed to look after him and pulled the family card as I wanted to be able to visit and be with him as a supporter without knowing all details. This chap was a role model to us and took many of us as DofE members. It turned out that he had incurable cancer and 8 weeks after becoming ill he died on 16th December. We held his funeral yesterday and it went on for 2 hours. I have never been to a funeral that went on for that length of time. The church was full, standing room only and we gave him a darn good send off.
It was during this funeral that my sister and I realised that 1. there were more people here who cared about him than our father, 2. He actually cared far far more deeply for us and our children and for much longer than our father and 3. we were more upset for the loss of him than we will be for our father.
Don't get me wrong. I will be gutted when my Dad dies but as DH pointed out to me, I will probably be mourning the loss of what I SHOULD have had for the kids.

There are a huge amount of people mourning at this time of year. I send a prayer and light a candle for each and every one of them.

My message for you all, and one which I would like ALL of us to follow is to please take a leaf from the book of

who is an angel and try to do something for someone. Find a talent you are good at and share it.

I have the same weaknesses as you. The Body Shop and Boots. If I got my stash out I probably have at least 30 bottles of shower gel, 10 bottles of body scrub/butter etc, so please Body Shop. No Jan Sale this year :rotfl:

I joined in this challenge last Jan/Feb/March but had to give up because you girls were a bad influence on me! I'd never really had much of a problem but then you kept recommending products and giving links to good offers...

Actually I'm really grateful for that because I got some lovely stuff which I am using and the challenge taught me to use all those special products that I was saving for "best" because I am the best and I deserve to use them rather than let them go to waste.

Plan:

Use face stuff like the peel, scrubs, treatments etc twice a week (as opposed to never, which is my usual routine)

Use the hand cream as much as possible. I have one by my PC, one in my bag, and one by the sink. (To be honest I hate the smell of S&G hand food!)

Use body scrubs.

Use smallest stuff first (I hardly ever travel so don’t need travel sized toiletries)

Count me in! This was the main reason I finally got around to making a MSE account rather than just lurking...
I do have a fair stash of stuff, especially s&g and body butters (my main weaknesses!) but for me this challenge is less about cutting down than the fact that I can't really afford to be buying anything that's not basic... Damn student debt :P
I'm looking forward to using all the nice beauty bits I got for christmas though

Joined this thread in a rush before I backed out so just wanted to say thanks to trudij for starting it (and to Katie for the original one).

My idea is to not buy ANY more bargains until we NEED them. I have only listed MY personal Lush stash not what the family use but that isnt so great and obviously will be replaced as required. I though MUST not buy ANYTHING so although I love Rebecca Bloomwoods take on the thread PLEASE GIVE ME A BIG HARD KICK if I even think about mentioning buying a bargain.

Progress so far - theres a bottle of shower gel I used this morning that will probably finish tomorrow but its not part of my stash :rotfl:.

Jeez LittlePinkStars - I Thought I had loads of stuff......:eek:

After talking to OH yesterday about our credit cards and not realising how many little items we put on there, instead of just paying for stuff from the bank accounts - we made a decision to cut them up and pay the debts off......

Then last night at my brothers, I mentioned how many bottles of toilettries we have in the wardrobe and I was rather embarrassed...:o

So, time to do a stock take, post it on here and put a new signature on here to remind me about all my money saving resolutions.....

I must apologise in advance for asking stupid questions sometimes (i'm blonde and am suffering from baby brain) sometimes I might go quiet, but start mat leave at end of Jan, so will have more time to chat....:rotfl:

Quick question, when starting this challenge, does this mean that toiletry sets bought through glitches, for presents etc are to be included???
