Appalling customer service in Argos!

Posting for a friend of mine, since he doesn't 'do' forums...
Before Christmas, he chose a TV from Argos as part of his Christmas present. It was all set up and stuff for him and his dad got rid of the box...first mistake!!
He's fiddled with the settings, followed all the instructions, looked online but no matter what he does the picture is AWFUL! It ghosts, stutters, and to top it all off one of the HDMI ports doesn't work properly.
Today, he went into Argos with his receipt but without the TV to enquire about taking it back to trade for another TV (they're OOS of this one, so the one he chose was £20 MORE than this one...). To cut a VERY long story short, his conversation with the assistant was relayed to the manager THREE FEET AWAY from where he was standing, however she REFUSED to speak to him directly and basically asked the assistant if he was lying, which she said he was!!!
How they could 'tell' he was lying without LOOKING at the TV is completely beyond me, and it really upset him as he's a genuinely nice bloke and not the type to try to fob them off.
Anyway, I got him to send off a letter of complaint about the service received and we're waiting on a response from them, but just wondered if anyone could let us know where he stands? He doesn't want a refund, he wants a working TV!!
This has pretty much spoilt his Christmas because it was his present and he was so excited about it...like a little kid!! I'd love to be able to get this sorted for him, so any help would be much appreciated

The most important thing to do in a shop is not to allow the manager to talk to you through an assistant, when you talk to them direct you will get a much better response.
Tell him to go in again, this time taking the TV with him.
I would go for a refund, then buy another one if he wishes.0 -
Absolutely disgusting service. As an argos employee this makes me feel sick...
If the TV is faulty. You're fully entitled to a replacement or a refund. It's up to the retailer to prove it was faulty before the 6 months. If it's a Bush or Alba TV, they're exclusive to argos. go back in with the reciept and you should get what you want if it is genuinely faulty.
If you want to name and shame. https://www.tellargos.co.uk Stores actually recieve this feedback.
Best of luck, and a happy new year to you!I try to help as much as I can. But I'm also honest and speak my mind.
Smoke free since Jan 2014If you want any advice on quitting please send me a PM.

Freddie NY Resolution, be kind. Therefore I refer the OP to my previous thoughts on the subject of not being nice when a shop has your money.Freddie_Snowbits wrote: »Oh dear, another did not get the absolution they preyed for and has decided to go away. I hope they do not think Freddie is at fault though, I am on a yellow for the odd spot of < Insert Scotts for Stupid Person Here > spotting in recent times.
One should note it took less than an hour in this instance0 -
Just go to the shop again, take the TV and proof of purchase and demand a refund. Don't leave the customer services desk until you get it.0
