NatWest changes

  • I tried posting this comment earlier today, I guess following on from Dulcieb, so apologies if it appears twice.

I too have had similar treatment from Nat West.

Today ( Saturday) I received the standard letter ' .. noted the issues ...raised.. investigating them.' This letter is dated 14 January but sadly it has been sent 3 days after I spoke to them on 11 January enquiring about my letter of 31 December. (I too was driven to write them a letter on New Years Eve as I could not get through on the numbers they gave.) On 11 January I was informed that their first letter had been sent in error and the interest would be recalculated as if it had not been changed. I would have thought this should happen immediately but so far the correction has not been made.

I had been tempted to send another letter today but found this forum and have decided to wait a few days before contacting them again, if necessary.

    Welcome to the discussion Sodeska!

I received a letter today too and it sounds as though mine is the same as the one you got.

I only managed to get through on Monday 10th. so this was my first communication from them since then. My letter was dated the 13th.

Judging by my case, they seem to have only reacted after I ended up phoning them for a second time. Their subsequent letter seemed to make it more urgent/official than just the complaint being entered into a computer. This being followed up by their phone call the following day.

Sodeska + CPfan - Reckon there's a good chance if you have left a contact nbr with them that you may well get a call on Monday.
  • I'm pleased to say that I've just got a letter from NatWest apologising for "any confusion" and reinstating the higher rate.

    Hi kenomeat

I got a letter today too saying the same as yours.

Thank goodness it's been resolved at last.
  • I looks like we have all had the same letter. Just to clarify-- the interest rate has been reinstated plus the interest that would have accrued between 16 Dec and 12 Jan (including compound interest) will be added by the end of February. So calculators at the ready.
  • I got the letter yesterday too. :j
    Thanks to everyone who contributed.

Hi -- And although I've been a bit quiet over the last week or so, I'd like to thank everyone too. I think we were able to reassure each other from the outset that we were indeed right and that the bank had just made yet another of its silly errors. Despite the horrors that others have gone through, I have to say that once I got hold of the right people they were very sympathetic. Again I have to note that much of this arises from the application of IT "solutions" that haven't been checked properly. One day someone will realise just how disruptive said "solutions" can be and think about testing new approaches better.

I also thought that when I got phone calls and letters from the customer service people, they were actually very good at recognising how annoying this was and at setting out their and my understandings. I know that they've got extra incentive with their big fine, but I thought they were ultimately ok.

Enjoy your returned interest and well done everyone.
