Coutts only has a UK call centre - based in The Strand in London. Part of RBS/NatWest Group if you want that kind of thing...

From experience I know that the Co-Operative Bank/smile.co.uk, RBS/Natwest, Bank of Scotland/Halifax and Lloyds TSB are based in the UK. In fact I know that Lloyds TSB have a call centre just down the road from me in Glasgow's city centre. Don't know if they're all 100% UK based, but with these I've always spoken to someone in the UK.

I've been told that HSBC and Barclays use at least some foreign call centres.

Avoid Barclays, HSBC and Santander - they all have some overseas call centres.

RBS/ NatWest along with Lloyds/Bank of Scotland/Halifax should all be safe.
Clydesdale / Yorkshire bank if your in range are also UK based.
Co-op and Nationwide too but I would not recommend them for banking.

First Direct - I can't confirm from experience.

Co-op have good UK call centres.
  • Co-op/smile are offering their premium accounts for 12 months free if you apply before 15 Jan, you need to transfer your DDs and SOs and pay in £800/month but you get free worldwide travel insurance, breakdown insurance, mobile phone insurance, access to your credit records with Experian & a few other freebees
    Ethical moneysaver
  • Anytime I have called Lloyds, I have spoken to someone in Scotland, Northern Ireland or Leeds. Never goes out of the UK & Irleand.
