If the high current account interest rates/free OD and 'incentives' stopped... I don't think they'd have a lot else going for them

no they would be just like first direct who offer no interest and are still far from perfect, though admittidly with a far supirior helpline

I don't think you can compare First Direct to Santander really =/

Thanks for the worldly advice, but I'll stay put if it's ok with you....

    Me too, thanks...

My own experience (rather than just reading threads in a forum) has been nothing but positive with both Abbey and Santander. Branch staff fine and helpful, minimal queues (though internet banking leaves me little need to visit a branch anyway), decent rates and overall no probs! Will be saying put, if it's OK with you...
"Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."

Is this soley from your own experience or just listening to what you read?

I banked with A&L before and during the change and account opening was ok but started to notice problems throughout which appears to be a common theme with Santander.

I have recently changed from HSBC to FD yes and don't think customer service in any way at all can be compared ...
  • I opened a Santander account 2 months ago - bad mistake. I'd imagine I've spent a good day trying to resolve problems with the account - the latest is that they've put a stop on my account without telling me. I only discovered when I tried to renew the insurance on my business. As soon as I get my account working again I'll close it.

What I find really hard to believe is why its on the main MoneySavingExpert site at all. Sure you might get £100 if you can bear to keep the account open that long but if you price in the time you spend trying to make the account work you're on a loser.

That's what I thought after being with Abbey, since.... welll forever, and I still agree about the Branch staff, but when things go wrong it's another matter.
It only has to happen once to see how little influence or discretion the Branch have to sort things out. They are wonderful, but powerless in dealing with the central bureaucracy that's now prevails. Better to get out now or wait until it happens to you ?

I'm moving from Santander due to several errors over the past few years. I always believe in complaining when things go wrong and have done 3 times with this lot. Each time they have sent apologies and cash but I've had enough of the poor customer service and staff in branch who seem to sign you up for things you didn't ask for. I discovered credit cards on my credit file that I had no idea about.
Lesson here folks-CHECK YOUR CREDIT FILE REGULARLY.
