    good decision made also
closed santander 2 months ago but still no final statement :(

I never did get a final statement, they just stopped arriving (although it took a few months and a couple of visits to the branch). Never having to go into a Satander branch again is one of my high points for 2010 :j.
  • Hi. I have recently moved from Santander to the Cooperative Bank. So far so good, I have been very pleased with the Coop's service.

Well I can say I was an A&L customer and apart from a few problems during the move I'am now very happy lol

The online system works good for me, I can see my DD's, do faster payments, log on anytime for an updated balance, never had a problem with the call centre they always do try and help (always uk), when I had a complaint they resolved it and offered me monies for cost of calls.

So overall I'am happy at the moment, they are no worse or better than Halifax.

Agreed. I recently moved a joint Santander current account to HSBC.

I still have a savings account and credit card (both with £0 balance) to close out, but I have been waiting for the new year to take action.

Santander are incompetent enough every day of the year; I was avoiding dealing with them during the holiday rush.

Please... because they sound rubbish from what you all say!

Thanks for the worldly advice, but I'll stay put if it's ok with you....
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

Was with A&L and now Santander.

Do all my business online (Nearest branch 7 miles) No problems at all.

Mind you we keep our account in credit.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

So did I (as I do with my active accounts at Lloyds and HSBC.)

The problems that many people have had with Santander have nothing to do with their ability to balance their own budgets.

If you look at some of the other threads about Santander, you will see that Santander customers (myself included) have had plenty of problems that have nothing to do with overdraft charges or not having enough money in the account to cover direct debits.

The latest - sending statements to the wrong addreses - affects everyone, regardless of whether their accounts are in credit or not. Actually, it probably affects people whose accounts are in credit more - you can't steal from a bank account if there isn't any money in it.

Probably best you stay away then

Been with them on and off for over 5 years now, best accounts only pay decent interest for a year. Had over £300 in bonus incentives paid and several £25 referals. Staff in branch have been very helpful though I will admit the telephone help service takes too long.
Just finished the transfer of my current account again and another seamless switch.
Maybe I'v been lucky. Or maybe its becuase i always keep a good check on my account. Never go OD and take nothing for granted.
May not be the best. But they are certainly not the worst
