They called over the regular saver account and asked information I had already supplied twice by secure message.

How do you know who you are talking to when you get a call like that ??
Never in 22 years have hsbc contacted me in this way and that has now made the decision for me.
I'll try and get the 2nd £100 and have built up quite a list of errors to send by letter and secure meesage but got several salary payments to make yet before i jump ship.

If you have a genuine reason to leave them (and I did) a secure message will do, worked for me. People rant about FD but they made several mistakes on the switch and were nothing special in my eyes.

I thought I had found a genuine reason to leave them and bag another £100 - standing orders above £50 go by BACS not FP, which would require making manual transfers each month to ensure they go by FP.

Called them (only to enquire, not to cancel or close), and was impressed by the creativity of the agent I spoke to, in solving the problem - she offered to set up multiple future-dated payments over the phone, which would work like a standing order anyway but with each transfer going through via FP.

The conversation showed that she hadn't come across this question before, and so the spontaneous "think outside the box" approach to solving the problem only reassured me that I'm better off staying with them. The Regular Saver should bag me around £100 anyway. Credit where it's due!
