Npower January 2011 60% price HIKE

Options
Hi I am Npower customer on the Web15 online tarrif. Having been informed by letter in mid december that Npower was increasing my tarrif inline i presumed with other current suppliers IE 5% or there abouts in january, imagine my suprise a week later when the second letter arrived telling me my new tarrif would by increased by 59.57% apparently this is applicable to all WEB15 Online customers as of 4th January 2011

Existing Web15 online tarrif Daily Standing Charge 0.1670p ex vat
Unit Charge 0.0799p ex vat

New charge Daily Standing Charge 0.0710p ex vat Unit Charge 0.1275p ex vat effective 4th January 2011

no thats the right way around if youve not checked !

this is the tariff you will be put on unless you specifically change company are tarrif?

"next best signonline 20" which is only maybe 5% more the Web15 tarrif but i was told that that would change soon too by 99.99999% dependes on how much they think they can get away with who knows.

Correct me if im wrong but the unit rate has been hiked by 59.57%, did they forget to tell us there were more didgits after the 5 so-called % hike.

I spoke to complaints at NPower yesterday 30/12/10 having been passed from one advisor to someone futher up the ladder because of my threat to go to the media, to be told that this is effective to all Web15 tarrif customers and that this tarrif has now expired or will as of 4th jan 2011. "IMO its profiteering" as i said to the CSA, who was now try to pass me up the chain of command for the managment to speak to me, which i refused for now.

I dont know how many customers are on this tarrif.
but according to timesonline article3986108.ece they have 2.2 million thats how many they were having to pay back for overcharging in 2008

and according to consumerfocus again having to payback 1.8 millioncustomers in aug 2010

but it must be a good percetage of one or more of those figures.

I am now looking into contacting Watchdog! with this months snow and freeze my KWH usage has tripled, compounded by the 60% hike on triple usage.
triple per/day per/week per/quater
Units per day 29.79 cost £2.38 week £16.10 12 weeks £199.92
60% Hike cost £3.80 week £26.58 12 weeks £319.01
yes its Frightening !!!!

In light of the progressively worsening and prolonged severe winter months coming in the times head we simply cannot afford to let this kind of profiteering happen

If you are an Npower Web15 online tarrif customer or as matter of fact any other with huge unjustifiable electricity price hikes please add comments to this post ask your friends and neighbours point then to this forum, if enough respond i will look to set a web site up
to collate information to present to Watchdog

Happy New Year All:)
Bry

There appears to be a charge to see the forecast from Piers Corbyn. As this is a money saving site, can you tell us how to access them FOC? Otherwise it makes your post look a bit like...well..Spam.
  • Have you worked out the change to your ANNUAL cost using the new standing charge and unit price figures and your annual kwh consumption? Does this give you the same 60% increase?

Also, what do the terms and conditions of the Web 15 tariff state? Does it give a confirmed plan end date? In my experience, most online tariffs are run for limited periods and unless you actively change to the best option with that supplier they simply bump you onto a standard plan when the plan comes to an end.

No idea why you are surprised at that. When you signed up to web15 didn't they tell you it would expire on 4 jan 2011 and you would then revert to the standard tariff (if you did nothing)? You agreed to that, so now why complain? Why did you sign up in the first place if you couldn't take the rise when your cheap deal expired?

We are all having to pay rapidly rising energy bills. These days, and even more into the future when bills will escalate faster, you pay much more in your bills than just for the energy you use. You pay for a wide range of 'green' incentives - cheap/free lightbulbs/insulation/many subsidies to solar panels companies and literally billions in windmill construction and very high subsidies to windmill owners to make their enterprises profitable. People apparantly wanted windfarms, so we've got them, and we're getting more, and we have to pay a high price in our bills for them. If it's any consolation, even the new electricity rates you quote will look extremely low in 3 or 4 years time.
  • I've been stung by NPower too. I signed up to Sign Online 19 starting on the 6th October 2010.

The electricity unit rate for the first 728kWh has gone up from 18.54p to 25.89p (39.64%) and the unit rate after 728kWh has gone up from 10.17 to 15.91 (56.4%) I think such rises are scandalous especially when it was stated that prices were going up an average of 5-9%.

It states in the letter that if we're not happy with the changes we can change suppliers (perhaps they are trying to get rid of customers). And if we do so in the timescales specified, we won't be affected by the changes.

The cheapest tariff seems to be Sign Online 20, so I might see if I can move to that first, without going through the hassle of changing suppliers.

Anyone else in a similar position?

    Hi

    What area are in you?

I'm in London and the new rates are: The electricity unit rate for the first 728kWh-18.54p/19.47p

Unit rate after 728kWh has gone up to 9.13p/9.59p

I'm switching to SOL 20 and I'll save £44 a year. Suppose that's better than nothing.:)

  • My rates were for East Midlands. Going to move to SOL 20 as you suggest. Do I need to ring up or can I do it via e-mail? After all the account is supposed to be managed on-line.

    Hi

I logged into mynpower and used contact us/web support/customer enquiry form to email them my latest meter readings. You can also ring them up.

Do you save much by switching to SOL 20?

You seem to say this a lot in response to price increase complaints.

I wondered if you had any data to back this up?

    Sort of:

How much extra are we paying for green incentives?

How has this changed year by year?

    Does it vary by supplier?

What are the projections going forward?

How much of Npower's/other Supplier's increase this time is attributable to Green Energy, windfarms etc.?

Aren't the green tariffs supposed to meet the demands of the green energy users. If not, what are those tariffs for?

    SOL 19 - Elec - 20.23p and 10.25p up from 17.04p and 9.16p
    Gas - 6.068p and 2.830p up from 4.361p and 2.775p

I'll be giving meter readings tomorrow to avoid estimated usage
up to the price change. Last bill in December, next one in June :(
