Ok Just thought id post this as its seems quite weird to me.
I applied for online a CC with my bank. Declined.
I call bank to ask why? and was told "No idea as my account says I have already been pre approved for a CC, and that I could also extend my overdraft and take an extra £4000 on my loan" I said no thanks as I didnt really need the card I just wanted to use it to replace a vanquis. A week passed and I decided I would take that CC after all. So called my bank back to apply for it over the phone. Declined! Bank says "must be something on my credit file as it is all ok their end and it even gives me an approved credit limit of £3000"
I thought I had a fairly decent credit file never missed payments and on the electoral role etc.
So I sign up to credit expert and pay the £7.99.
I call bank back (about 5 hours after my last refusal for a CC) to apply for another current account to help me budget money around for my bills. Application a success....."Oh and it has also accepted you for the Credit Card"
Me "really how cos 5 hours ago I was declined?"
Bank "Maybe your details have been updated"
All that changed in those 5 hours was the fact i paid experian through creditexpert.com (whom my bank uses) £7.99
Coincidence?

Hmmm. Is it possible you had some kind of "no-borrowing" marker on your account, someone i know had one as the account was previously a youth account and it was never removed. 5 hours might be enough time for the bank to notice and remove it, which would explain the sudden acceptance and the automatic declining despite the bank pre-assessing you for lending.
I must admit though, this doesn't seem too likely. It kind-of fits the facts, but relies on a lot of 'ifs' and people not noticing something was amiss.Union official.

If it was no borrowing, why would they approve the loan and overdraft? Also it was the experian report that had me refused nothing to do with my bank account.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Its not Halifax by any chance is it? There have been previous reports of people applying for credit cards, being declined, and then finding out they have been pre-approved for cc, and the offer has appeared on online banking. See this thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2860052Debt free and staying that way! :beer:0
