SKY costs loads - options?

Hello

Have sky on skyplus box downstairs, and HD upstairs on subscription for 12 months (ending tomorrow), and multi room. No movies, sport, basic packages - costs £46 a month

DIGI BOX with free view has never worked here, despite the postcode showing it will so thats a no - no, unless spend on aeriel, and was told thats £150 ish

NO VIRGIN / CABLE in this area

BT VISION wont work as Broadband here is less than 1 meg , and no upgrade plans before 2015!

Do I have any options to save? I have heard about freesat through the sky box but dont understand it, one off fee? pay each month? still use sky box?....welcome any guidance or advice

Cheers

  • If you cancel your Sky subscription you will keep your box and still receive all the free channels.

    See here for full list.............

However if you cancel you will no longer be able to record using sky plus with out paying £10 a month just to use the recording facility.

A Freesat PVR can be plugged in using the same leads as Sky Plus and using the same dish, and costs from £180 for a Grade A Humax Foxsat HDR

Check out http://www.joinfreesat.co.uk/ for info on this product and freesat in general.

    Hope this helps.

Get your aerial sorted, should cost between £100 and £150 depending on what you need. What you are spending on Sky every 3 months is the same amount!
Freeview will rarely work without a proper external aerial.
But Freesat will be your cheapest option, using the existing dish and LNB, and will give you the basic HD channels.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

The cheapest option is to just cancel Sky and watch the free channels.
  • Thanks very much. I am not sure I cans ee the freeview channels are any better than freesat so dont fancy forking out £100+, so think freesat it will be

Q1 - Will I get it on each of the boxes, therefore meaning we can watch different channels?

Q2 - If I tell sky I want to keep plus and pay £10 a month, will this onyl work on one box or will both be able to record?

    cheers

Q1 - If you keep both your sky boxes you can watch separate programmes on each box.

Q2 - £10 will cover only one box.
  • thanks very much
