Hi guys, I have a real problem :(

Brought a camera from Currys at 5.50 pm today, came home 20 minutes later and opened the box, but the camera and battery are missing!!!

I immediately rang the Currys CS who took my details and said they are emailing from note to the store and asked me to get to the store a.s.a.p. Another 20 mins later I got back to the store and the sales assistant sounded astonished and that she has come across nothing like this before and said that the box was sealed!!

The seal in fact was not cut through,, but there was another transparent seal which we had cut through.. looks like someone neatly took of the security seal, took out the item and put another clear seal on top.. i still dont understand how the security seal has not been cut through by even us :(

The duty manager told us that he is not authorised to do anything on this and asked us to come back tomorrow.

will they exchange and give me a new one? It costs about £140 and am a lot worried!! sleepless night today

Do any of you know what happens now?

Well my guess would be they would replace it, the assistant didnt open the box before you bought it to A see if you were happy with the contents and B they could replace it there and then if anything was missing, i bought a camera from currys and the guy opened it before we payed to check inside

They'll probably replace it. Tbh, I would have done it there and then.

A similar thread to another one this is, basically they are very likely to swap it over for you but they could quite refuse as for all you know you could be pulling a fast one.

I have to ask....did the OP not think the box felt a little light?
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

  • i in fact thought the pack was actually very light when putting it in my bag, but the camera is a really compact one and weighs only 120gms, so dint raise an alarm. i was actually very happy that it was so light weight! how so stupid!! i dint know there could be problems with sealed packs and there was nothing suspicious or obvious about the pack when i purchased.

all i can say is am not lying.. will see how it turns out,, therez probably not much i can do from your replies so far..

thats why they normally open the box up to check the contents as once you pay you have accepted all teh bits are there(well thats my take on it)

This appears to be getting a more regular feature. I think that the seals are giving a false sense of security. Are these proper tamper proof seals that set in some way or as I've seen, ones that are a soft plastic - my guess the latter, and although I've not tried it, I think that there will be an easy way round these - I won't publish as I don't want to give anyone ideas. Looks like we need to return to good old fashioned service and check all goods before purchase. This kind of thing will spoil it for everyone, as stores will stop taking returns unless goods are faulty, but is a sign of the times that we live in. I'm sure they will replace so sleep well.

Is it possible that the camera is invisible?

  • the seal is a normal plastic tape, d silly thing is u can pull it off and reseal it again and it goes back without any frills,, d gum on it stretches long and keeps going..

invisible camera? let's brain storm on this idea and give it to manufacturers ;) made me :rotfl:for a min and then back to :( face again.. d one i got was not invisible am sure

Without calling you a liar and a thief, something which there's no proof of, there's not a lot they can do. Maybe there are two on display by mistake?

  • :j i got a refund !!

went to the store this morning. Repeated the whole story to a new store assistant again who looked at me disbelievingly. He spoke to manager and went to stock room to check if there is another item to exchange for me. Waited for about 20 mins near the till and could see the SA doing other work. He came back and said no stock and left me with manager who went to the stock room to look. Another 15 mins. He came back and went to the camera display area and was checking something. It was more than 20 mins again and I peeped from the till to see what he was doing. He had a camera in his hand and was looking at the computer. He finally came back and said that he had checked the serial no on the display one and the no. on the box i brought back and they are the same  he had checked it is working as new and wanted me to take it. have been cleared from all allegations by currys

I refused as it was display piece and will not pay d price of brand new and got a refund!!!

Three return bus trips for 2 people, called liar thief and all curry's business has caused me is £10 loss, sleepless night and false allegations :embarasse can i claim compensation ;)

Beware guys ALWAYS ALWAYS open the box after you've paid at the till itself even if it has the security seal on.

am new here and your support was very helpful .. thanks
