Wife on O2 cant recieve texts from 2 friends on 3 network

Weird. Was working OK.

All of a sudden two of her friends on 3 send texts but they are not recieved. Wife can recieve texts from everybody else, and send to her two friends. Also her friends can send/recieve to/from everybody else.

Shes spoken to O2 who were no use at all...

Anyone ever seen anything like this?

    What did O2 say/do?

The problem could be at 3's end, but what they should have done was asked for one of the numbers effected and a date/time that one of these texts were sent and ran a report to see if the message has even reached the O2 network, if it's reached the O2 network it'll allow O2 to get a rough idea why it's not been delivered. If O2 haven't received the message then there's nothing they can do.
  • My friend used to receive texts from me without problem, but about a year ago she stopped receiving them. I was on 3 network too. I have just changed to Orange and have sent 1 text since the change and she did not receive this either.

She has also found 2 other people who she does not receive texts from. Yet I can ring her, so my number is not totally blocked. Don't know what network my friend is on, but I will ask when I see her next week.

Yeh. Same. Wife can make/recieve calls no problem.

I agree, it's unlikely to help, but you probably will find that no matter what network you call when they start the troubleshooting process one of the things they'll suggest is upgrading to the latest firmware to rule out handset issues. A quick work around is to phone up again (they're open until 9pm) and say you've (or your wife has) just tried the SIM in another handset and the text messages still aren't being received.

It's also worth selecting the iPhone option from the phone system when you call up, that way you'll speak to somebody who's more clued up on smartphones and while they might not be familiar with your wifes handset they'll hopefully be able to look further into it.

not sure about android samsungs but the samsung i had was able to block selected phone numbers from texting and i'd clicked it by accident once and blocked someone from texting me could be worth looking to see if you have that setting
  • IME, this is quite a common issue with O2. I think they have to do some kind of sim update on their end to fix it.
Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug). ;)
  • I'm the other way round! I'm on 3 and my friends on O2 and I can't receive her messages, I also can't don't get messages sent from 3 network! Very strange....are they lost somewhere in cyber text land?!!

Iwould echo this advice. It is by far the most common reason for not receiving texts. People will often imagine network errors and faulty handsets. When in fact its a simple matter of a mistakenly applied menu option.
  • Spookily, this didnt work for a day or two then all of a sudden all the queued texts came flooding through. Working ok now.
